Forgot to mention that you could bring your copy of the book to be signed if you are interested.
And since someone asked.....if you don't have the book yet and want a copy you can purchase one on Thursday at the run. No need to run to the book store

the river rafting was excellent! we had lots of fun
and lots of GUTS folks took home wood (awards) for the 5K, 1/2 and full marathon at the mountain top race
it was really a nice race. not a lot of entrants though. i hope they keep it around but i have to imagine it will be hard if they don't have more entrants

rich "held" the event several times. i ran it twice (what was i thinking? ). we never had more than 20 folks and it was all self supported i can give several routes that are GOOD. But each year it was held, there was an official route. the basics - run to top of stone mtn and back down. then run to ponce (de leon ave),which eventually turns into Lavista, then into Lindbergh, eventually dead-ending into Peachtree (yes, THE Peachtree). From there a right turn and then a left onto Paces Ferry Rd which eventually crosses I75 and the Chattohoochee and into Cobb county. from there, multiple routes can be taken. the OLD route was to run to atlanta rd to windy hill and then to county services which borders/hits kolb farm. the newer route connected to the silver comet trail and then to the park. once connected to the park, you run the trail to pigeon hill and then to the top for the finish. 50++++ miles. My best was just over 7 hours. it was low key, no aid, survive on your own. it was in April to coordinate with Civil war timing (i prefer my birthday which is confederate memorial day, until recently a day off for all state workers) I'd do it next year, if someone else is the RD

i vote for THursdays too. A bunch of us run there on THursdays pretty often
i'd also like to start an every other week track session, for those who like track workouts. I go on Wednesdays. Maybe the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month? Gotta pick a track that is good for most folks. Right now i run at Lovett, which is just inside 285 on Paces (by the river). I am up for other options.

This is just an idea, so don't scream at me... But I'm curious if it makes sense to ever branch GUTS out regionally? I noticed that Christian Runners did this and it had a HUGE impact on their membership growth. Not sure how the Christian Runners executed the concept. But i am up for suggestions. Actually, it is one reason for the forum, so GUTS folks can let each know about runs that they are planning. So, if one of y'all intown folks want to start a weekly, monthly, whatever run, let me know.....

OK, great! It seems there's a bit of interest to run this thing next weekend. Saturday, August 15 (8p) - Sunday, August 16 (8p) Janice, could we park cars at your house or in your neighborhood to further avoid suspicion from crotchety rangers? Sure....unfortunately i won't be home! Going out of town next weekend. I will let my house sitter know not to call the cops.

FYI - not a lot of cottages left! But a bunch of the 3BD cottages just became available again. There is a 2 night minimum. But they are very nice.
If you like camping consider staying with the GUTS folks at the pioneer campsite. Only $5. Saturday only.

Jealous of GUTS member's cool shirts? tie dye shirts are $15, and solid colors are only $10. Add $5 to ship. In tie dye we have blue, red, orange, green, pink, and purple. Solids colors are blue, brown, dark gray, light green, rust, and pink. Right now i probably have some of every size/color. If you'd like a shirt send your check and mailing address to GUTS @668 North Saint Marys Ln, Marietta, GA, 30064 I will have gear with me this weekend at H2T if you plan to attend. For those who wonder what the t-shirt colors are really like here is a photo:

Please come check out our new sponsor American Mtn this coming Wednesday starting at 7pm!! The store is located in the Vinnings Jubilee shopping center on Paces Ferry Rd just inside 285.
They are going to host a special gear night just for GUTS. Seemed like a good time for it since GUTS is hosting a camping/running event at Fort Mtn the very next weekend. So you can stock up on camping and trail running gear at 15% discount PLUS 5% goes back to GUTS.
There will also be a drawing for a pair of Salomon shoes and lots of tasty and cool refreshments.
Hope to see a lot of y'all there! ;D

Join runners across the nation and show your support for the sport by going for a run. The goal of the day and the movement is to promote running as the healthiest, easiest, and most accessible form of exercise. See www.runningday.org for details. I know Phidippides is going to have a run at 6:30am at their Ansley location and 6:30pm at their Sandy Springs location. Both will have food and other goodies www.phidippides.com/blog/I am up for a run at the river in the early am, if anyone is interested!
