This is just an idea, so don't scream at me...
But I'm curious if it makes sense to ever branch GUTS out regionally? I noticed that Christian Runners did this and it had a HUGE impact on their membership growth.
Due to the urban sprawl traffic problems of Atlanta, it's not always easy to get together with all the other GUTS members.
Sometimes, I think this might prevent people from renewing membership since they can't really take part in the club side of things other than occasional races.
Would it make sense? ...or are we still too small? ...or simply no desire to do such?
Just a thought.
Cheers!

I like the idea of having multiple running locations, having more than one club setup might work as long as the common theme of the club was followed.
Maybe move the training runs, or events to different areas is one idea.
I don't think anyone would be screaming, the only bad idea is the one that doesn't make it out in the world. ;D
Hope everybody has a fun time at the h2t tomorrow.
Warmest regards,

I've only been a GUTS member for a few months. The membership is a bargain at $15 so I will renew regardless.
However based on my location in Decatur and working full-time, it is nearly impossible for me to make the Tuesday runs at Kennesaw. I think it's a great idea to either have parallel runs (Kennesaw and Stone Mountain, etc) or to rotate locations. I'll definitely participate in more monthly runs - had a blast on the 301 last weekend.
Just my 2 cents as a n00b. ;D

We can always get together for more training runs. I train mostly at Harbins Park in Gwinnett and at Ft. Yargo in Winder. Anybody is welcome. I know the Vogels are running at Stone Mtn. as are many others. And the calendar is showing a training run at Red Top on Aug. 16. With fall season approaching, we'll all see each other more often.

I nearly made it twice but the Hwy 41 closing and lack of parking did me in. However I am determined to HTFU, mend my ways, etc. and become a regular. I did make it to the Ft. Mountain run and definitely got my $15 worth! Loosely organized long weekend runs would be welcome. I get lonesome and lazy. JT

I noticed that Christian Runners did this and it had a HUGE impact on their membership growth. Not sure how the Christian Runners executed the concept. But i am up for suggestions. Actually, it is one reason for the forum, so GUTS folks can let each know about runs that they are planning. So, if one of y'all intown folks want to start a weekly, monthly, whatever run, let me know.....

I have a couple of Christian runners that come to my run group I have at the Y, I will ask them and see what they did, or how they got the format that big.
Thanks,
Randy

I'm an intown GUTS member and have seen several GUTs members run the trails at the Chatt River (Powers Ferry parking or Column Dr parking). Not sure if there is already a weekly run there, but would love to start one. I've made it to 1 Tuesday night run at Kennesaw and wish i could make more, but the start time and traffic heading north is too much for me to coordinate. If anyone wants some company for 6-10 miles for solid trail running let me know. I'm typically out there mon-thur; early runs 7-7:30am start or eves 6-7pm start.
hope to see you out there,
S.O

Hey Surftrip. What part of GEORGIA Ultrarunning and Trailrunning Society to you not get? ;D Maybe he wanted to start one in Greenville (SC, TN, AL ...). BTW - Didn't there used to be a weekly GUTS run in Decatur? What happened to that one?

There are trails at Barnwell and trails at Sope Creek. I've been to both but haven't quite figured my way around.

I've never been to Barnwell. Where is that?

The trails at Barnwell are off of Barnwell road. If you go up 400, get off at old Milton turn right, go down to Jones Bridge rd, and turn right, it will eventually turn into Barnwell, and the Jones Bridge Unit of the CRA is down on the left about a 1 or so. There are 5-8 miles of trails out there depending on what you do, it really is a nice place to run/ Parking is 3.00 I believe, or if you have an annual pass you can park.

You can also get off at Holcomb Bridge and go to the right and take a left on Barnwell and go a mile to CRA on your right. It's very nice and not very crowded. I always see deer.

I think it is a great idea to have a "rep" for those of us members that are dislcated from the group and enjoy running an array of trails in a different part of the state.
If it did kick off to where a rep was associated with a general geographic area of Georgia I would volunteer for the Southwestern (or Columbus if associated by town) area as I have been frequenting the trails down here for the past 5 years solo and some company would be awesome every now and then!!!
