You can search for USATF certified courses on their website: www.usatf.org/calendars/search/Just be sure and check the "USATF-certified course" box. The only 5K in GA that came up was this one, same day as Chattahoochee: 3/6/10 Berry Half Marathon/10k/5k Rome, GA 5 km, 10 km, half-marathon I am not sure if they require the course to be certified. Hope not. I may have to run the new Chattahoochee 5K!

In the spirit of running fast and free, we will be running on Jan 1 at Marietta HS track
Be there by 11:30am. Relay race starts at 12.
Here's the plan: 2 people per team Teams will be created based on recent race times. We will try to create teams so that they are "even". NO SANDBAGGING. i will have recent race results so do not test me. Race distance - 6 miles Team members will rotate running 800 meters (2 laps), handing off at the end of each 800 to their team member. First team to complete 6 miles wins!
Who's in?

i have always wanted to run AmRiver. it is a classic! i suppose i need a good april race....
i actually ran on part of the AmRiver course on monday, since i landed early afternoon in Sacramento (and there is no place down here in Lathrop to run)
i don't remember any major amount of horse manure on the WS trail. of course that could be because i always ran the last miles in the dark and could not see what i was stepping into.....

A small problem with the results: I am missing from the marathon results. Stephen Barnes and I had our numbers switched at registration (I think he was given mine by mistake.) He is listed at my finishing time - 6:19. I'm listed towards the end of the half marathon - I assume that's probably his finishing slot. Thanks! -- Andrew Strickland i will get that fixed. that's why they are the "Prelim" results! thanks for letting us know

Thanks for a great race...the clouds were an added bonus! I, too really like the t-shirt and the volunteers and aid stations were awesome. Just curious, what was the official distance for the full marathon? Thanks again...I will be back next year! John in Cartersville the official distance is 26.2 :-)

Great, well organized event on a very challenging course. Will definitely be back next year ready for the full marathon. Still not sure where or how several of us did an extra counter-clockwise loop at the beginning of the race just after going around the lake. Looking at a park trail map, we may have done a full loop of the Big Rock Trail, but not sure??? The tremendous view overlooking the Cohuttas just after the fire tower completely made up for the extra mileage though. MMM wouldn't be possible without all the volunteers, so many, many thanks to them! We were so lucky with the great weather and the trail being in great shape despite all the recent rains. I hope the marathoners enjoyed the new section, which brings the race to a FULL marathon distance. ;D I can tell you exactly how the group got lost. When you crossed the road after doing the lake loop, you (correctly) went onto the Big Rock trail. About 200 meters down the hill is a sharp right turn to get onto Gahuti (clockwise). Having missed the turn the group went uphill on yellow (Big Rock) and Gahuti (Orange) tree blazes-but no ribbon for about .1 miles(the 2 trails run concurrently in this section). But after just a few minutes on that section there were orange arrows and ribbon for when the course comes off Gahuti and turns on the Big Rock trail to AS4 (at foot of the power line & Big Rock/road) and then ultimately back to the lake loop and back the finish (since that is the final portion of the course). Now, i am not sure how the sharp right turn was missed in the first place, other than it is a sharp right turn on a downhill, but that intersection did have ribbon, painted arrows and a orange wooden arrow. Next year it might have a volunteer too!

MY opinion is this is the fastest way - if you are coming up 75. There are faster ways if you live up 575 (ie take 575 north...)
From I75 Northbound from Atlanta: Exit #293, GA 411 to Chatsworth; travel approximately 39 miles to Chatsworth and turn right onto GA 52; park gate is on left in approximately 8 miles
Yes, GA 411 could be called a back road, but it does have passing lanes occasionally.

Part of this discussion came from talking about the new fee for the Resolution Run on New Years Day. It has always been free to members, but they are trying to "enhance" the race and will now be charging $22. What do you think? Maybe ATC races don't interest you, but they have a lot of them, AND....AND, they have potential to have races that the likes of us WOULD be interested in running. But we gotta let them know what we think. This is from a concerned GUTS member (not me although i agree): Many changes at the ATC are receiving mixed reviews. Membership costs, board elections, race entry fees, etc., etc. The latest thing being considered is the elimination of the Marathon because it isn’t “big” enough and only draws a little less than 1000 entrants. I urge any one who has an opinion to let the track club know. The executive director’s phone number and email address are at their website. It’s your duty. Here is the Executive Director, Tracey Russell’s contact info: trussell@atlantatrackclub.org This link gives all the ATC’s contacts: www.atlantatrackclub.org/contactus.htmHere is the board member page. Note: It has not yet been updated since elections. They don’t give out individual board members emails, but you could use this one and address it to someone specific - boardnominations@atlantatrackclub.org www.atlantatrackclub.org/boardmembers.htm

good thing you didn't give him a cold since the rest of the group BROKE HIS TOE!
Yes, he was running in the vibram 5-fingers(or should it be toes?) and stubbed his toe, which was later determined to be broken!
is running barefoot-ish a good thing? not if you run with us apparently

Volunteers are needed for Pinhoti Aid Stations!
GUTS will again be hosting 2 stations at Pinhoti. Same 2 as last year (#4-mile 23 and #14-The Pinnacle @mile 75). Last year we had enough time after closing down #4 to go eat mellow mushroom pizza in Anniston before proceeding to the Pinnacle. GUTS will treat volunteers to lunch!
Volunteers also receive a shirt from the Pinhoti race and a patch from GUTS! Supplies will be provided by the race and GUTS, although i know the runners are always happy for extra special items (eg: fried egg sandwiches!!)
Please send an email to getguts@hotmail.com and include which station(s) you can work and your t-shirt size. We will help coordinate carpools for those that volunteer.

we are going to run the "winter" route at the mtn. So, the run should be a little less than an hour. I'm sure he'd sign books right afterwards for those not going to pizza or any time at the pizza place.
By the way - we are of course going to Marietta Pizza Co on the square. Should be there around 7:45.
