Greetings from Sacramento, I miss GUTS but the trails out here in California are amazing! Western States, Mt. Shasta, Tahoe Rim Trail, the Bay Area, the options are endless, and out here in the west they invented something called a switchback Paula and I finally joined up with a trail running group last weekend and they highly recommended the American River 50 for a first time 50 miler or anyone shooting for a fast time. It'll be my first. It's on Saturday, April 10, 2010. www.ar50mile.com/The first 30 miles are on a relatively flat, paved bike trail along the river. We ran the last 20+ miles on Saturday, it's nice rolling single track along Folsom lake and the American River, nothing very steep or technical but check out the last 3 miles!! We live less than 2 miles from the start and have two spare rooms if anyone's interested and doesn't mind an extremely energetic beagle/lab mix. Seriously, we would love to have fellow GUTS people crash here before the race. Bonus, it's a Western States qualifier. On a side note, it's strange that in all I've read about Western States nobody ever mentions the massive amounts of horse manure on the trail.

i have always wanted to run AmRiver. it is a classic! i suppose i need a good april race....
i actually ran on part of the AmRiver course on monday, since i landed early afternoon in Sacramento (and there is no place down here in Lathrop to run)
i don't remember any major amount of horse manure on the WS trail. of course that could be because i always ran the last miles in the dark and could not see what i was stepping into.....
