I'm looking to get in a long night run either this upcoming weekend (Aug 7-9) or the weekend after (Aug 14-16). I'm pretty flexible on when and where and would love some company.
Here's what I'm thinking:
- Kennessaw Mtn, park at Burnt Hickory - Start running at 8p - Most of the loops will be focused on the mountain, but may also include heading out to Cheatham Hill and Kolb Farm for variety. Loop by the car and drinking fountain every hour or two to refill on fluids and snacks. - Finish up around 8a
Some of you (Reeve) may be asking yourselves, "Bryce, why don't you just go to the N. Georgia mountains and run a good long stretch up there?" And that's of course a reasonable question. My response...
1) I figure I may be able to twist more arms to join a run that's closer to town 2) I'm not a huge fan of putting together logistically complicated runs. Learning new trails, dropping water, yadda yadda yadda. I'd rather someone put it all together and I come along for the ride 3) I'm comforted by the idea that around Kennessaw Mtn., I'm not likely to run into any rednecks who might think I got a pertty mouth
So, if anyone's interested in doing a little night running--for a little bit or all of it--give me a holler. My preference is for this upcoming Friday PM through Saturday AM or next Saturday PM through Sunday AM.
Any interest? We don't need to go fast, so anyone and everyone are welcome. My primary interest is to get the time on my feet and try some stuff out in preparation for the Superior Sawtooth 100 mile coming up in September.

OK, great! It seems there's a bit of interest to run this thing next weekend.
Saturday, August 15 (8p) - Sunday, August 16 (8p)
Janice, could we park cars at your house or in your neighborhood to further avoid suspicion from crotchety rangers?
I'd like to get started around 8pm and loop back by the cars every 1-2 hours. If you'd like to join, shoot me a private message or post to the forum with what time you'd like to join and for about how long you plan to go. I'm planning to stay out from 8p to 8a, but of course anyone is welcome to join for as much or as little as wish. If we know when to expect you we can be sure to loop back by the cars around then to pick you up!
Can anyone think of games to play through the night?
Like...
Midnight - 1 barefoot mile 1a - funny/rediculous hats for next loop 2a - pizza delivery (anyplace open that late?) 3a - etc.

Hey you nocturnal ultra people,
If you are scared of the dark and want/need to run long tomorrow during the day, I'm thinking of doing 30 or so miles up on the fools gold 100 mtn bike race course tomorrow (outside of dahlonega) and check out some of the race while plodding thru the miles.
Start around 7 am.
Phil
ps. sorry Bryce, not yet ready to lose an entire night of sleep.

Final plan!
Park: in Janice's neighborhood, along the road near the trail entrance Start: 8:00p SHARP! Run: loops around the park, avoiding the visitors center Food: whatever you bring, although I assume we're all willing to share a little. Fun: all in your attitude! Please leave "Patty Poopy Pants" at home! Finish: whenever you want, a few of us will go until 8:00a
Hope to see many of you all there!

How was the run? I love to run there at night but I've jacked up my IT band for the moment.

The run was great! Highlights include:
- Christian in a standoff with a mountain lion until Tony "the Intimidator" scared it off. - Pizza at 1a. I never thought I'd eat an entire pizza over the course of a few hours of running, but it went (and stayed) down surprisingly easy and definately hit the spot! - As darkness was in it's waning hours, I ran up on what looked like a naked woman taking a bath on top of Pidgeon Hill only to realize it was Christian sitting on a rock retying his shoes! Dang!

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.
