If you ran the Inaugural ING Georgia Marathon, you know what I mean by "shortage". But it turns out that the race is not to blame. I can't reveal my sources, but I'm told that Publix is at fault for not delivering ANY Powerade. I'd love to know more details, though. I personally loved the course. And the neighborhood support was great! Also like the technical Mizuno shirt. Hopefully they'll get the kinks worked out for next year and this race will continue to be a premier event.

I'm sure more details will be available on their website soon enough. I know the important stuff...start/finish at Underground Atlanta, route goes through Sweet Auburn, working it's way to Emory and back, a big loop. I also know, having run the ING New York marathon, that it will be a first class event and I'm totally stoked about a big, new QUALITY marathon in Atlanta!

Struggled to finish and did but with all the hills, heat, and rough terrain this race chewed me up and gave me a good reason why I should not do the marathon distance..... I need to stick to short and simple 5K's. Radio Flyer, do NOT judge other marathons by Twisted Ankle! There is no comparison! As marathons go, this one is very tough. I'm a lot more sore today than I was after my road 40 miler two weeks ago. Try a road marathon, or at least a trail marathon will more gentle hills.

MattK, I felt pretty much the same way. About 1/2 way, I was done! But kept moving, albeit slowly. My time is embarassing (7:20, over an hour slower than last year), but I was going as fast as I could. The heat totally wiped me out, especially on the long gravel road to the marathon turnaround at mile 17. They were out of gatorade at that point (boo hiss), but at least they had ice cold watermelon (the best watermelon I've EVER had)! I heard several reports of snakes, so you know it was hot. Thank goodness I had company in my misery, a friend running his first marathon. We tried to make the best of an unpleasant day. Kinda hard to acclimate to the heat in one day!
Will I go back next year? Ask me next year.

I ran Twisted Ankle last year and will again this year too. There's a b*tchin' hill very early on...walk it...slowly Other than that, remember to drink fluids and have fun!

$50 ?? Geesh, the mouse gets greedier every year! I personally would say no, it's not worth it. And yes, I've run the race (I'm a goofy). There's plenty of stuff to eat/drink after. Didn't use baggage check as I had a crew, so that would have been wasted. Sat in our car before the start until about 30 minutes before the start. Had my preferred breakfast at my preferred time. And believe me we had PLENTY of character greetings the entire way! I'm still kicking myself for not carrying a camera to get pictures with Pooh I'd say spend that $50 on admission to one of the parks instead!

Spud, My time at the Atlanta Marathon is about the same as normal. It's not seriously hilly, just rolling enough to break up the muscle use. Some of the time you're on a long gentle downhill, so those spots help make up for the inclines. At least that's my opinion. Or course, I like hills, so you may want to ignore my opinion

I was thinking it would be fun to call in sick one day and see just how many times I could do the loop...only 16 would make 100 miles...... slug Oh yeah, Janice, that would be loads of fun. Count me in... NOT!
