Janice is in charge of the volunteers. She's in London until next Wednesday. I'm sure she'll see your post when she returns.

Cathy, are you OUR Cathy S, the 4" Cathy? Not that it matters, but I'm volunteering all day, counting and watching the beer (a very important job, watching the beer). Help is always needed (watching the beer, it can be so unruly). And I plan on running at least one loop early in the day, so someone will need to be in charge of the beer while I'm gone (we'll figure out the lap counting as we go). So consider yourself counted. Wear your running shoes in case you need a break of watching the beer and decide to do a loop.

I would John but #1 son is coming in form Louisville tomorrow for a week so I guess I'll have to pass.
Hey let's lend Janice, Ragan, and Francesca a little positive for their London run. I'd say that's a stacked team, they will run well.

You don't want to leave the Beer unattended for very long...never know who might be lurking in the shadows.

John says he will be running the 50 miler .... I don't think you will be able to torture him with beer ;D

I'll think of something to tempt John ;D
Important Pumpkin Butt updates: 1. If you enter the 50 mile, I will NOT cash your check until after the race. It will make it easier for those getting refunds. SO there is NO REASON to delay entering!! 2. THere will be a time limit and cutoff. No running is allowed in the park after dark. The time limit is 13 hours and the cutoff will be set accordingly. 3. After August 10th, I am considering opening the race to all comers, if it is not already filled by GUTS members. Any thoughts on that?? Sally thinks I'll never get 35 people wanting to run over the mountain that many times, but I'm not so sure!
thanks, Janice

I already have my pumpkin picked out...I figure if I do the 50 miler I would only have to run to the top 4 times and get credit for 4 times. ;D

Oh no, Sally, this isn't a BYOP event. You can pick from what we offer

<Quote> The run will be held on a loop course. Each loop is approximately 5 miles in length. The loop will head west and circle the bottom of the mountain, then climb to the VERY top, and descend the park road. </quote>
Is there a map of this loop? I'd like to try it out before committing to this insanity. (I mean the insanity [for me] of the 50 miles, not the measly 5 mile loop.) Does anyone routinely run this route (and could show me the way)?
Thanks Munster

Correction: it is approx. 6.2 miles in length Sally&Marty measured it this past weekend. So, we'll ONLY have to go up the mtn 5 times in the 50K and 8 times in the 50 mile. I don't have a map (yet), but if you've run at Kennesaw Mtn, here is a more detailed description: From visitor's center (PB will start about 1.5 miles west): head west on main trail to Burnt Hickory Rd; do NOT cross the road, but turn right and run along road towards water fountain (you can cross to get a drink if needed); the course turns RIGHT here and heads up Pigeon Hill; it continues over all the rocks, and then up the "new" mountain trail; at the fork, where the "new" trail hits the old, take sharp right and head up old trail; continue across Little Kennesaw, and up mtn; cross mountain road and continue up to the very top (aid station will be in this section); go over top and down to the mtn top parking lot; run down the ROAD (this is because you are not supposed to run down the trail); run less than 1 mile down and turn RIGHT at the first opening back into the trail - there is a cross-walk sign and cross-walk paint on the road here (you do not go to the visitor's center or to the open field); head down the steep hill and take a right at the bottom back onto the main trail. that's a loop, enjoy, Jslug PS You could join us one Tuesday night at 6pm and we'll give you a guided preview of the course

I run it occasionally and would be glad to show it to you!
I run at the park most every night of the week, just let me know.
I was thinking it would be fun to call in sick one day and see just how many times I could do the loop...only 16 would make 100 miles...... slug

well it would be more fun than work ;D
Mr cheese, Your map is very good! It is indeed the course as intended. And yes the green blob looks about right for where the start/finish will be located. Fix it up and I could add it to the race info. thx, Janice
