I've been trying to train for Pumpkin Butt. The police have stopped me twice and demanded to know why I was running down the road in my shorts carrying a large pumpkin. I told them Janice thought it was a cool idea. And they say ultra runners are off-center... Peace. B

Tell the police you are a member of GUTS. That should be enough of an explanation.

Well I did run a 2 loop test on Sunday and I'm now quite convinced that _I_ can't make 50 miles. With a two-loop average of 1:30 per lap (and slowing) I'd need <stops to check figures> 16 hours 12.7 minutes (+/- 4 hours ). And I haven't yet run on the "immediate sharp RIGHT" part of the trail. Cantal Note: I've never entered a trail run so don't start spreading the word that the 50M is impossible; it's just impossible for me, since I've only run a total of 45K of trails EVER! (Hope to double or triple that before the Pumpkin Butt event.)

Richcheese:
Don't feel bad....I did a two looper this week-end as well and I have serious doubts that I will be able to make the cutoffs......it's a tough run. I think we need to increase the cutoff times....or start in the dark!!!!!!

This ominous silence seems... ominous I have some trepidation about the upcoming Pumpkin Butt. Someone cuddle me and tell me everything is going to be alright. But then, if it was not a challenge, why would I attempt it? Hope to see you all Sept. 10th. Peace. B

Well, I had a great time at PB! Thanks GUTS for putting on a fun event where I could just roll out of bed and show up! Yep, it was hard and I was tired but I enjoyed the reverse loops and seeing some of you really running up and down Pigeon Hill. Saw some interesting boo boos on knees, ankles and thighs. I was relatively unscathed. Just a typical day at the mountain. Kudos to the Pumpkin Carriers. Enjoyed meeting some of you guys I had not met before.

Yes, my butt is still draagging a bit this morning. Hopefully a little run this morning will get some of the soreness worked out. Thanks to all who volunteered for their time and support. Thanks also to the runners who were very supportive. 5 times over the mountain was a big deal. Glad I'm done for now. Had lots of fun sharing the day with everyone. A special thanks to John Dove for reminding all of us what the Pumpkin BUTT was all about.

It was horrible. They made me run 4 loops up and down the mountain - then several GUTS members held me down while Janice stapled a PUMPKIN to my back. One scary guy covered in dirt and blood kept showing me his butt. Encouraged by all this I ran(sort of) a 5th loop! Actually, I had a GREAT time. Without the support of the GUTS members and volunteers it would not have been possible. Wish I could have stayed longer at the after-party. Thanks everyone! Peace. B

I was amazingly less sore than I thought I would be! Laps in minutes 94 94 101 165 138 Lap 2: Ran too fast (In a relative way) Lap 4: Includes 45! minutes at aid station Lap 5: Includes 30 minutes at aid station Thanks to Sarah for pacing my fast last lap. She all but dragged me out of the aid station for it (I was about to set up a tent and bedroll) and then continuously started running after each of the ups. "Are you sure this is flat, it looks up to ME!" Thanks to everyone who helped.
