Yes, I saw that last week. Funny thing is that there is another new marathon in Alpharetta just 3 weeks earlier on March 4. www.alpharettamarathon.com/. There is also a half marathon option, so that could make a nice final long run before a 3 week taper. -- Phil

Almost no information on the website. Probably the most slack race website I have ever seen! However, Big Peach is a sponsor. Their Brookhaven store has a 4 x 6 foot map of the route.

I'm sure more details will be available on their website soon enough. I know the important stuff...start/finish at Underground Atlanta, route goes through Sweet Auburn, working it's way to Emory and back, a big loop. I also know, having run the ING New York marathon, that it will be a first class event and I'm totally stoked about a big, new QUALITY marathon in Atlanta!

Almost no information on the website. Probably the most slack race website I have ever seen! I'm sure it will get better. They haven't really started promoting it yet. Being sponsored by ING (New York City Marathon), this could be a great event. -- Phil

I'm sure more details will be available on their website soon enough. It took a while, but there's much more info now. www.georgiamarathon.comAlso, if you're interested, on October 27th you can run the course with Dean Karnazes (for $100) as he runs the ING Georgia Marathon as part of his "50 Marathons 50 States 50 Days" attempt. active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1329063-- Phil

Don't think of it as paying $100 to run with Dean. Think of it as paying $100 to get a police escort to practice the course.

Oh, I didn't say it was worth it :-p Or that I would trust Atlanta police not to run over you, much less to stop others from running over you. That is just another way of looking at it.

Reasons to pay Dean $100.00 to run ATL course: 1) Its a better way to spend the day than working; 2) The event is raising money for a solid cause - getting kids active in the world of electronic entertainment; 3) I'm inclined to like the guy - as a runner he's fast, tough and it would be cool to talk with him for a few minutes; 4) run ING course in advance; 5) its a better way to spend the day than working. Peace, love and electrolytes to everyone!! Matt.

Being a rookie at this long distance stuff, do y'all think that the FatAss 50K is too close to the ING GA Marathon to do both? ... if you really cared more about the Marathon than the FA?

You could always put in a "half-assed effort" and use it as a training/test run... WAIT! The FatAss 50K? Not the SCUR 50K? The FatAss is 11 weeks away from the ING marathon. SCUR is only 4 weeks. 11 weeks should be plenty!

M - I think that depends on how long you have been running long generally, what your weekly mileage is like and your vulnerabitlity to illness. If this is pretty new to you and you really want to uncork one at Georgia ING, I would skip FA or take it super easy, maybe just walk a bunch of it and stop early. Its not that the time between the events is too short - I think alot of people can generally recover just fine in that time. But, I do know that when I first started going looonnng, I was really susceptible to colds etc. for a couple weeks at least after a big run, anything over 22 or so miles. You dont wanna head into last few weeks before Georgia ING with a nasty chest cold..... Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the moment!!

i would agree the FA 50K being in early Jan will allow plenty of time for recovery
the SCUR is probably too close though
