Mmmmm! I bet vegan would be really good with bacon on it. ...and cheese ;D BTW, a great source for organic/vegetarian/vegan food in the Atlanta area is Sevananda in Little Five Points. Other than some of the employees having serious attitude, it's great!

Hey colonel...organic isn't vegetarian, necessarily. Organic beef, pork & poultry qualify! ;D

Sorry, haven't had time to write a report. I finished, my 10th finish at the Jim. I had champagne to celebrate. It was a hot day. Rained on me the last few miles, thankfully. I was running semi-injured, so the only goal was to cross the finish line. Took a ~15 minute break in "the walls" to watch a new foal take it's first wobbly steps, but had to leave before it finally stood. Struggled to the line in 8:49.
Next year is the 30th anniversary, and big things are being discussed!
;D

Now that you've mailed your check, I can be more honest Tullahoma is perfect, only a short drive away. But staying in Wartrace is nice because you just stumble out of your hotel at 6:50 and go. Do try to make the course tour on Friday afternoon. If you stash supplies along the course, keep in mind that critters live in the woods and they love snacks ;D I've had dogs get into my stash before, and once had raccoons open gatorade bottles another runner stashed! You may want to consider carrying a pack of sorts with your snacks. Just a thought.

Colonel. The Jim doesn't do drop bags. You have crew access the entire time, and a crew is definitely the way to go. A lot of folks go out the day before and stash stuff. If you make it in time for the Course Tour on friday, you can stash things at several spots along the way as Gary stops every few miles. There are also a lot of other crew vehicles, of course, and most are very helpful if you need anything. They're puttiing water and Conquest drink at a few aid stations. And a few snacks. But don't rely on those stations. The Jim is definitely a race where you need to supply yourself. Adds to the fun The course is marked by painted arrows on the road (I hear the yearly re-painting has been completed). And Gary paints "cute" little sayings on the road to encourage the runners Wartrace is a tiny town. There is one hotel and several B&B's in the area. One convenience store. That's about it. So keep that in mind when planning on picking up supplies. But you can get everything you need in Shelbyville just a few miles down the road. Now send in the application and we'll see you there!

Jennifer, Yes, I've tried all of the Succeed drinks and am happy with them all. I honestly can't tell you why I switched to Ultra, but I think I did it back when they switched to Clip2. I preferred the old Clip formula. I'll probably switch back to Clip2 for my 100 in April, or Amino, as the proteins are key to my happy tummy.

Kraaken asked in this post about preventing cramps. Managing electrolytes is key in preventing cramps and maintaining proper hydration. There are a lot of products on the market just for this. I prefer Succeed! Electrolyte Caps. Hammer also makes a similar product I believe.

Great site. There is also GMap-Pedometer. No login required. You can save routes. I have all of my favorites saved. Never use your car to measure a route again! Of course that's hard to do anyway at Sweetwater and Kennesaw Mtn ;D

On Nov 1, three men began a run across the Sahara, 50 miles a day for 80 days. "A major component of Running the Sahara is H2O Africa , its Clean Water initiative. H2O Africa will create widespread public awareness of the water crisis in Africa and gather support for clean water programs in critical areas. Clean water lies at the crux of many challenges facing African people – from health, to education, to human rights." Track their progress at RunningTheSahara.com
