Richcheese, Joe's training for a 100 MILER, not a 100K. Big difference

I think we all feel that someone else is more qualifed to answer, so we keep out mouths shut! Seriously. I mean, geesh, if Sally ain't qualified, then no one is! Gosh, I know I ain't qualified, being pathetically slow and all. I always feel as though my "training techniques" aren't good enough for most folks, and they darn sure aren't the way to win. But I can get you to a finish Speaking of which, hoping for #7 at Mtn Mist this weekend...

Josh, Welcome to the forum. You don't have to be an ultra runner to feel at home here.
You have two fantastic options in the immediate area. 1) Kennesaw Mtn. Over 17 miles of trails. For long trail runs, this is the place to go.
2) Sweetwater Creek State Park (west on I-20 from Atlanta, the exit past 6 Flags). The lesser known of our trails here in the Atlanta area. There is an excellent 5.5 mile loop and another 3 mile loop. Go to the visitor's center and get a map of the trails. I love it, especially for a quick run. My favorite is to run the loop on one direction (white/blue), refit at my car, then go in the other direction (blue/white) for a great 11 mile run.
I always forget about the trails at Stone Mtn. There's a nice ~6 mile loop.
Beyond the immediate area, there are many options. GUTS will be leading members-only long training runs at FDR State Park and Amicolola Falls this fall.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link! I subscribed to his blog so I won't forget to keep up with his journey.
Hmm, just noticed that he's technically not "running" the entire thing. He has that cart that he actually "rides" downhill fast. You have to read the "About the Journey" link on his site to get that. Kinda lessens the feat, IMHO.

<From the website> www.bellbucklechamber.com/rcmoon.htmlHistoric Bell Buckle, Tennessee- where we are 100 years behind the times and proud of it! Sounds like fun. The only problem I see is the 4 hour drive and the 7:00 a.m. race start. (No telling what Time Zone they're in!) It's only a 3 hour drive and they're in the Central Zone. Just a few miles from Wartrace, where I have run the Strolling Jim for 10 years. Have been stopping off in Bell Buckle for shopping the last few years (not during the race). No hotels in BB that I know of, but a cool B&B in Wartrace. Have wanted to do the Moon Pie run for years. Colonel, getting them to sponsor GUTS would be awesome!

"For years, marathon runners have endured long distances in their quest for bragging rights and prestigious t-shirts. Now, state park hikers have their own conquest that ends with an exclusive “I did it!” t-shirt. Georgia’s new Canyon Climbers Club is reserved for those few who have scaled to the top of Amicalola Falls, explored the depths of Providence Canyon, braved the swinging bridge in Tallulah Gorge and faced the daunting staircase in Cloudland Canyon." click here to read more

I was thinking of a moment of silence, also. She was well known by almost everyone in the race. And Brenton is registered. Brenton, I hope you still will join us at Hot to Trot.

Thank God for Sally, the true voice of reason everytime. Keep it up Sally, my Dad never excersized, gorged himself with pork and beef daily, and lived 80 years. Smoked, too. My grandmother was the same except she included alcohol in her daily menu---died at 82. Sarek(formally the immortal hog) For the millionth time...organic does NOT mean vegetarian. And I would like to point out that Sally's "unhealthy lifestyle" includes her own homegrown vegetables and preserves, no chemicals or additives.
