Darn it! We're going to have to miss this hot little number this year. We'll be dealing with altitude instead of severe heat that weekend. We'll miss it, have a good race!

Hot to Trot will fill in the next week or two. If I don't have your entry in hand already, you'd better get to mailing it. I"m not holding spots for anyone. You must preregister!

Wow! This year's jog through the park will have a new champion! Am I reading this right?
Jack McDermott and Roxanne Zobava have not signed up? And I don't see Susan Lance, or Meg Crawford, or Helen Cox, or Jenna Carver, ... heck, maybe I should just list Jill Floyd, Anne Rentz, and Kendall Prescott as the only women Top Ten finishers who are returning this year.
On the men's side it is the same. Only three of the top ten are returning. Where are Matt Silva? Adam McBride? Greg Goodson? ....
Did all of these folks melt under the intense heat of Hot 2 Trot? Or did they just wimp out? "Waaah, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble."
On the bright side, the top highest finishers, who ARE returning from last year, Jon Obst and Gary Griffin, had identical lap counts ... so this year's contest should have an exciting photo finish!

Maybe I should sign up and share in the fun this year! But then I wouldn't be able to tease the runners with ice cold beers and other assorted goodies!

Unless, I'm out of town, I'm bringing cooler of beer, Twila and lounge chair to watch.

My 30th high school class reunion in OH was inconveniently scheduled the same day as H2T (how could they??), and the curiousity is killing me....otherwise I wouldn't miss it!!!

My 30th high school class reunion .... Sweet! I went to my 30th last summer and I'm glad I did! It was a blast! It's funny how you can not see somebody for 30 years and feel like you are continuing a conversation you had with them just last week. Good times.

I am REALLY bummed to be missing this race.
FWIW - Greg Goodsen is in Utah running around Wasatch. We didn't have anything tough enough 'roun 'er for him anymore.
I wish everyone well and here's hoping you knock off some serious miles.
...and I hope you burn.
burn like the freaky, sadistic, pain-seekers that you are.
Sorry, I'm a little bitter.

Hey Christian did you forget to send in the registration or do you have plans?? Oh and by the way, next time you are doing spinger let me know, I would love to meet up there and do some hills. Lane No - I have my CrossFit olympic lifting certification that weekend and it's the only time its offered anywhere near local. It's not everyday that one can get certified in the squat, snatch, clean-n-jerk, etc... by olympic coaches, so I gotta do it. ...but I'm bummed, man. super bummed. I love the vibe at that race and I really wanted to kick my last years performance in the ass. ...s'ok - I'll save that goal for Laurel Valley --- I hope... also, yea - the next AT approach trail run we are doing to Springer and beyond will be July 26. Get some! ...anyone is welcome. we usually leave Atlanta 5:30 and are running before 7:00 ...usually get back around to atlanta 1-ish or so.

We enter at the Amicalola Visitors Center, where the arch is designating the beginning of the trail.
Here are the directions:
Take Ga. 400 to Ga. 53 towards Dawsonville. Turn right on Elliott Family Parkway (Hwy 183), and continue on Hwy 183 until it ends at GA-52. Turn right on GA-52, the entrance to the park is on the left about 1 mile past Burt's Pumpkin Farm on the left.
To me, it's the best, most challenging run in the area - it's very, very similar to the Foothill trails of SC, NC, GA
On the way out, there are three long climbs, with many short, steep sections as well - there are also some nice sections of sorta' ridge.
Depending on how far you want to go, the Benton MacKaye can be picked up about 1/4 mile after Springer, and the short amount of running I've done on it has proved to be really, really nice. Not a lot of traffic there and the trail actually has grass growing ON it.
The way back is easier, at least from Springer back to Amicalola, with a very, very fast last mile.
...not to mention, the o-so-pleasant creek at the parking lot, perfect for soaking sore muscles.
I really hope you'll join us.
we usually leave atlant at 5:30-5:45-ish and start running promptly at 7:00 a.m.
...would love for any GUTS members to come out. It's the kind of "no joke" training necessary for some of these upcoming single track races on the schedule.
(LV, Stump Jump, Fort Mountain, Pinhoti, ...on and on)
