After experiencing TOTW for the first time at the race this weekend, I'd like to venture out there on several Sunday mornings over the summer to get myself into decent shape for the races later in the year.
I'm thinking that it would be nice to park at the area where the aid station near the TOTW peak was located, then run loops (aid station area to the powerline bulldozed trails to Sweetwater Creek, then around the long stretch of flat trails to the ravine incline leading to TOTW hills, and back to the aid station area). How do I get to this aid station area from I-20? Would I be allowed to park my vehicle at this location or near the school? What is the name of the school?
A lot of the time, I'll probably just park at Sweetwater Creek State Park and run to TOTW from there, but I'd like to run (okay...run/walk) loops at TOTW exclusively as well.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Drop me a line if you want to go out there. Sounds like park where finish was and run to TOTW

I don't think it's private property, but it's not a part of the Park's official trails. As far as I know, it's not against the rules or the law to run on the unofficial trails. I've run TOTW a bunch, but always parked at the visitor's center. The name of the school is Factory Shoals. There is both an elementary and a middle school on the same road; I'm not sure which one it is. I think it's the middle school. To get to the schools, head south on Mt. Vernon Road and drive past the park. Mt. Vernon dead ends into Fairburn Road. Turn left onto Fairburn Road and continue heading south. Then take your first left to get onto (Factory) Shoals School Road. I don't know if you can park at the schools or not. The address for the middle school is 3301 Shoals School Road, Douglasville GA 30135. You might get more info if you posted these questions on the Douglas County Rogue Runners' Message Board: www.dcrr.clubexpress.com/

Hey folks. TOTW IS on private property. How do I know? Because the Deputy had to get the gate key from the land owner so we could get access to it There's a deer stand on the route, and lots of turkey. Yes, they hunt, and yes, it's trespassing if you on his land Park property is all ok, but NOT TOTW or the Tributary area. You've been warned!

Jason, sounds like shouldn't run there, or, if you do, don't wear antlers or feathers.
By the way, is the Power Line road on the private property? I was thinking the actual TOTW was private, but the series of hills leading to it are not. Is that right?

It's ALL private, technically, just owned by various folks or groups Don't know what property the powerlines leading to TOTW are on. The safe way to be is to start in the park and watch for boundary markers, probably yellow or orange rings painted on trees or actual signs, and don't go beyond them

Can't help but think of this song...
"Sign Sign everywhere a sign Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, Hey! what gives you the right To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner"
