For those interested in a classic Southeast trail running race, applications for Shut In are now available. Go to the Information link at the following website - shutinridgerun.com/ The course gains 5,000 feet in 18 miles finishing just below the summit of Mt Pisgah. Being the 27th edition of the event, this is probably one of the longest running trail events in the SE.

$75 is steep, but it's no more than you would spend on a major road marathon, and even though it's only 18 miles, your time will closely approximate your road marathon time. I ran it 2 years ago and it is one of my favorite races. You don't get much other than the race for you $75; water for aid and a long sleeve cotton t-shirt for finishing. It will sell out, so don't dawdle. Unfortunately, there are many other options that weekend: Mtn. Masochist, Pinhoti, Peachtree City 50K.

This is the kind of situation where I wonder just where in hell the money goes and how much the RD is pocketing. Sorry, the RD in me can't help it. I'm a believer in charging only what you have to and giving 'em more than they need.

I went to the website and came to the exact same conclusion. $75 coins for a run up a hill seems "steep". At first, I thought hay what the hell I would like to see how fast I can run up this thing and then I saw the price...

I agree that $75 seems high for a trail race. However, I would not have originally posted the link if I didn't feel that the event is truly worthwhile and a great experience (it is one of my favorite races along with the now defunct Bartram race put on by the NOC). I would easily trade two average Georgia trail races for this one. Fortunately, we are all lucky as there are more and more local trail races on the calendar each year, so there are plenty of other options to choose from.
