I am looking to do first 50K later this year and would like to know people's opinions on which one they would prefer.

Can't speak to Upchuck but Stump Jump is a great race on a great trail.

Both are very tough East Coast 50k's! I would go with Stump Jump, Then if you like that, do Upchuck.

I went to the site and Up Chuck is minimally supported...I am curious which race has more water/food stops?
Thanks, John in Cartersville

I am hoping to run the Stump Jump. It is 2 weeks after my NF Washington DC 50M so hopefully the legs will recover by then. Also, Dan Karnazes is the guest speaking this year.

I ran Upchuck last year. It had two aide stations - one at 8M and the next around 18. So it is minimally supported and very low key. The race directors are very cool and the food at the end was great. There were only around 30 runners...i think it will have more this year but will still be very small. The course is quite challenging... big up's and downs and some serious stream / river crossing. But it is very beautiful.... I have not yet run the Stump Jump (doing it this year) but it will have many aide stations and many more runners. Both have their pro's and cons. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.
