It's official the trail reroutes at Sope Creek / Cochran Shoals for phase 1 are open to the public. Additionally some of our old trails have been shut down, but it is very easy to navigate.
However keep in mind these new trails are not as wide as the old ones and we are sharing them with several user groups, including one, mountain bikers, who are publicizing it. There will be more MBs than in the past and some who are unfamiliar with trail etiquette. Additionally these narrow trails are not directional for any user group, but sight lines are pretty good. So keep your chin up & your ears open.
Mainly keep your ears open, because there is a rumor Spurgeon sings the Lion Sleeps Tonight when coming downhill really, really fast. Supposedly the Doppler effect kicks in and makes for quite the auditory experience. Mind you this is only rumor, and I have never experienced it first hand, but I am hoping to one day.
Run fast, take chances!
