We adopted a new dog last Saturday ( Labrador Friends of the South). She's about 1.5 yo and was already trained to run. I've done a couple of short runs with her and she handles them very well. What type of collars/leashes would anyone recommend for running?

Congrats! That is a beautiful dog!
And thanks for the link. I had never heard of this group.
As for running with a dog, I can't be of any help. I tried it a few times with a lab we used to have and he never got the hang of it. Too many stops to mark the trail and too much tangling of the leash around my legs! LOL
Do you know what kind of leash and collar she was trained on? I would stick with that.

Thanks. She did well again last night. I think she was trained with a choke collar and I'd like something else. I used a Gentle Leader collar last night but am thinking of switching to their harness to avoid the nose loop. The hands-free leash she was trained on keeps coming unclipped (bad design) so I'm looking for a new one.

REI sells a pretty decent hands-free waist belt / leash system. It works well if your dog will run consistently at your side. You could be in for a world of hurt if the dog has a tendency to stop or change direction without warning though.

OK, so now you're talking about my dog. No belt-leash system for us. Not the way she takes off after squirrels. Yikes!

She's doing really well so far, though does completely lose her mind at the sight of a squirrel. She bolted once this morning causing me to leap over her and do a sort of dance to not get tripped up on the leash. Keeps me on my toes! She has a lot of puppy in her. So far on the runs she has yet to get tired or seem sore afterwards. I've been checking her pads after each run as well. I've only done 5 with her so far but am being cautious at any mileage increases as she's also getting used to her new home. It gives me a chance to swing by the house and refill my water bottle when I drop her off anyway. After next weeks trip, I'll start on a few longer trail runs with her.
I'll check out the one at REI. I have a few recommendations from friends that I haven't looked up yet but should have some time this week. I may even just make a simple one out of some webbing and buckles I have around. No choice now as the one that came with her is already falling apart. I've gotten rid of the collar that she was trained with for the Premier Gentle Leader one though I'm going to switch from the Headcollar one to the Harness (chest mount) one as it has been rubbing her nose a bit.
