Ok so I think i finally FTFUed. I haven't been talking in a while, but for good reason. I went to the doctor and he said I need to get a bone scan because something was really wrong with my leg. So i come to find out that my right shin is fractured and my left shin has a stress fracture. Apparently its been like that back since the Pine Mtn 40. So..... I'm still not running. Hopefull I'll be back in time to re-start training for Pinhoti

Wow man that is wild! Did you realize something was wrong with your legs? Is that why you went to the doc? And how did you come to fracture them? Hope you heal up fast!!

Holy Moly! A fracture AND a stress fracture! Ouch!
Good luck with your recovery! Take your time and get well. The trails will still be here when you're ready.

Well, for a few months, I just thought is was like super bad shinsplints or something. Finally I just about couldn't walk anymore and I figured it was prolly a reasonable time to go to the doctor. Its a weird fracture though, it's all inside the bone so I can only wear a boot. A cast wouldnt do any good because the bone is already in place, just really medded up on the inside. So that kinda sucks. If I'm really really lucky, though, I might be able to get back to short distance running in a couple weeks.

I might be able to get back to short distance running in a couple weeks. That's good news! But don't rush it. Better to pay the short term price of a little extra healing time than to suffer the long term price of not being able to run again.

I had a tibial stress fracture a couple of years ago and it wasn't nearly as painful as yours sound. It took probably 10 weeks to heal properly. You should do some cross training in the meantime (swimming, cycling, whatever). Absolutely stop whatever you're doing if you feel any kind of pain. These take a while to heal.

Is aqua jogging the few moments after you pass an aid station and you run with that paper cup that splashes water all over your face every time you try and drink and you just keep swallowing big mouthfuls of air until you finally give up and walk a few steps until you chug it down.

Google Aqua jogging. You have belt you put around your waist that keeps your shoulders and head above running and you can actually run laps in the pool. It's boring if you do it by yourself. Helps to have a friend along. Jamie jogs at the Mountain View pool in Cobb County just about every night.....I try to get there on Mondays.
