Any females from Atlanta running Strolling Jim on May 2nd? I'm looking for someone to travel with me. My husband is unable to go and I'm a little nervous about driving back to Atlanta (4hrs) after the race after running 40 miles.

Have you done this race before? It looks kinda lightly supported. Thanks Dan

I haven't done it but Patrick Binienda (guts member) has done it like 20 something years..He would advise me otherwise if it weren't a good one, I think.
I'm just more concerned about driving home alone (four hours).
If anyone hears of any girls running it and they want to ride with me, please let me know. Thanks.

I might be going... Let me think about it! What's the think about? Isn't there a rule somewhere that the reigning champion has to defend their title?

Thanks Dan i have run it a few times. there are no aid stations. just water jugs at certain points. it is road and they have arrows painted on the ground plus a few signs (i think, it's been awhile). so you shouldn't have issues getting lost you either gotta carry what you need (besides warm water) or have a crew i plan to run this year. i don't know yet if my husband is going, but if he decides not to, then i would be up for carpooling

Oh, I thought I saw photos on the website of some food. Maybe they weren't official aid stations but some nice locals handing out food. HAHA. I'm really looking forward to it-at least I don't have to worry about falling three times like I did at Black Warrior 50K a week and a half ago. OUCH!

they do have modest aid stations now- they are pretty spread out, but better than just water jugs!!

Being a newbie I needed to know the full scoop on the aid stations so I emailed them. This was the response. The original plans for this years race were pretty bare-bones. I didn't have many volunteers or a lot of time so Dad and I decided to keep everything very minimal. That included the aid stations. So the original plan was to only have water every 2.5 miles after the 5 mile mark. Fortunately, I've had a very good response since then. The water will remain as is, but we will be adding 1 or 2 aid stations with food and hopefully other drinks. I hope this straightens everything out! I will be bringing GUs and food.

Definitely plan on it being the bare minimum. Two aid stations of 40 miles ain't much. You can stash food on the course tour the night before. Gary will stop at several places along the way that are common stash points, but they're several miles apart. And keep in mind that the locals (raccoons, possums, drunk hillbillies) may get into your stash over night. Camelbak-type packs are popular. It can can really hot later in the day (not that you'll be out there nearly as long as I will), so don't wear black Crews are all over the place during the race, so if you're ever really in need there's almost always someone driving by who will ask if you need anything. Really brings out the good in folks. Well, except for the drunk hillbillies.

Thanks for the great advice. I have a camelbak but I was thinking about buying some shorts at the ING Expo tomorrow that have all the little pockets...I can't think of what they are called. I have no idea of how long I will be out there. If all goes okay (and the heat may be the problem for me), then I'm looking at 6-7 hours, I think...I can't wait for this one!!
Janice is and Patrick B. are going but is anyone else? It would be fun to meet some more GUTS people. I'm heading there by myself.

I'm thinking about taking my bike, taking pictures and just hanging out.
I will be the one you will want to knock off the bike.
