Hi! I am Ultra Spud, a new member from England. I will be moving to Atlanta in the spring of 2005. I would like to find a home near the trails, can you help me and give me the name of some cool places to live? Thank you! I hope to make lots of friends here on this forum and in Atlanta as well.

Welcome Ultra Spud! I live in Marietta which is a city on the northwest side of Atlanta. The cities of Marietta and Kennesaw are located very close to Kennesaw Mountain National Park. This park has 2900 acres and almost 20 miles of trails. It's a wonderful place to train. We are also about an hour by car to the mountains in North Georgia where the Appalachian Trail begins. More good training up there. I'll let the people from the other parts of Atlanta tell you about their areas. We are looking forward to meeting you when you get to town. How did you hear of us?

Oooops, sorry I posted in the wrong forum. It should have been in General. Hi Mega! I heard about this group when looking for ultra events in GA on the Ultrarunning magazine website. I clicked on one event and your website just came up. I love chatting so I hope you guys will enjoy chatting to me. <topic moved to General Discussion by Sarah Tynes on 12.1.2004>

I would agree that Marietta is the best area if like running trails. Kennesaw Mtn has at least 17 (20 if it's a Jim run) of different trails to run.
Stn Mtn is another choice. It has a 6+/- mile trail loop.
Also, somewhere on the Cochran Shoals/Chattahoochee River corridor would give you a fair amount of trails to run.
Let us know when you move and we'll take you on a run! ;D

Send us your contact info when you come to town. I think we are planning a group run the weekend of Dec 18 and like Sally pointed out, we have a 50KM fun run on Saturday, Jan. 8th. I'm sure we'll be doing some other training runs in Jan as well. Janice

Thank you very much peeps! Is the FA 50 a technical race? Do I need to read maps? Are the trails marked? I am asking because I only train on the road as there is a lack of trails where I live. Is there a cut off time? Are beginners allowed to enter? I am a slow runner!

The Fat Ass is for runners of all abilities. It will probably consist of loops so you can run as little or as much as you can/want. The trails are not technical.

Hi peeps! Unfortunately, i don't think we will be going on the 6th anymore as Mark is waiting for his contract and looks like it has been delayed in the Christmas post. We are looking into going sometime in January. Just in case, i have entered Hogpen but, if we go later, I am thinking fof entering the marathon on the 30th. As soon as I know any dates, i will post a message. by the way, i am a member now!!! ;D

Hi!!! ;D At last the time has arrived for me to go to Atlanta. We will be arriving on the 6th at 3:30pm and leaving on the 16th. I will be staying at the Marriott Atlanta Northwest Marietta. I do not have the phone number at the moment. If anyone wants to meet please send me a message. I will be doing the Fat Ass ( 2 or 3 loops) and the Hogpen. looking forward to meeting you all! Anna PS: Do I need to take water with me during the FA or there is water around the trail? Do I need off road shoes or normal running shoes are OK? Thank you!

hey LD Spud!
That's awesome that you'll be here this week!
We look forward to meeting you at the FA. I'm not sure where that hotel is, but give me a call when you get in and I can give you easy directions to the run.
You might want to carry a bottle as it is supposed to be warm. There is one aid station per loop (7.75 miles). There is one water fountain, but it is sometimes broken.
This is trail, although not very rough. There is one stream crossing, but you should be able to cross with dry feet.
cya soon, Janice

Hey Spud,
I would carry a bottle because the last couple of weeks the water fountain that is on the course has not worked. I did not carry one last Sunday and I was parched when I finished..
See you Saturday,
Jamie
