I was even trying the day before. I am in, I would recommend if you want to run, better sign up quick. After the Umstead debacle, one can not take chances.

I just signed up for Mountain Mist, this will be my first Ultra, any training suggestions, places in Atlanta that closely mimic the course? I hear a lot about back to back long runs, not sure if my body would like that, I have been running for 30 years pretty much injury free due to a lot of cross training (triathlon, weight training, not running 2 days in a row). FYI, I am a large runner, 205lb, 6ft2in. I ran the Twisted Ankle Marathon last year in 4:55 and have done a bunch of shorter races.

Learn to run on rocks and learn to climb a nearly vertical waterfall and you'll be all set for Mtn Mist ;D
The course gets much more technical and difficult in the second half. The first 10 miles are fairly easy. While not all of the course is rocky, there are a lof of sections that are incredibly rocky for extended periods of time. I honestly can't think of any trails in metro Atlanta that are as rocky as some of those at Mtn Mist.

Run up and down Kennesaw Mtn and you'll be fine. Better yet, run a long run which includes a couple of trips over the top, and then when your legs are really tired and you think you can't go another mile, make one last trip up the steep side of the mountain.

I saw in Suzanne Taylor's email newsletter this morning that there are only 13 spots left! If you haven't signed up yet, you'd better hurry!

Go to Tray mountain or Blood mountain on the AT - do long runs there, both are near trail heads so you can go up and over twice on an out and back. Plenty of rocks and stiff climbing.

Hmmm... good advice; however, my recollection recalls that the majority of Mist is rocky, single track, especially in the latter stages, but Kennesaw is more like Red Top training. Runners preparing for Mist might also consider to HTFU (I love this acronym and will use it religously from now on) and head on up to North Georgia for any one of the AT segments - my favorite, of course, being the Meat Grinder at Amicalola Falls. Looking forward to Mist this year - Hell, looking forward to all races this upcoming year - and seeing everyone here and there.

MOST of Kennesaw is ez stuff, but the trip up the backside is rocky, steep and difficult; pretty good for metro ATL i do agree though that the real hard stuff is in North GA. Of course Amicalola is one of the "nicer" trails you can do, for some ugly stuff, go for blood mtn, jacks knob, duncan ridge, trey mtn, and anything really in the cohuttas

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

I'm registered. Does anyone want to split a room with me or share their cabin with me? I'm small and don't take up much room.

Carpool Anyone?
Leaving Saturday morning and returning either Saturday night or more likely Sunday morning. Send me a message if interested. I live in Kennesaw close to the Wade Green Road exit on I75.
