Hey, I was just wondering if anyone else here has run the trail at Fort Yargo and if you enjoyed it. If you haven't gone there, I strongly suggest that you do. It is a really awesome 12.5 mile trail in Winder GA. It is not too technical and has a few climbs but mostly rolling hills. The gas line is bad, but definitely not like anything like the one we encountered at the Sweet H2O. This is a big hotspot for bikers, so definatley pay attention for them and make sure your music isn't too loud if you use an iPod or whatever. Make sure you bring $3 for parking.

This is the location for the Thrill in the Hills race (marketed as a 1/2) each February. I've only run the trail during the race, so I havent encountered any bikes. It's a good running trail.

I was there again on Saturday morning.
The inner loop is just over 6 miles if someone wants a shorter option. It's the new beginner trail loop. Follow the yellow blazes.
The outer loop is the 12 miler and has blue blazes.
Lots of bikers on the weekends, mostly on the outer loop. Be sure to run opposite direction from the bikers. That would have you running clockwise on Saturday and counterclockwise on Sunday.

This is a fun trail. Its nicely groomed with nice views of the lake. Though not too much climbing and you can tell its made for bikes in a few spots where it zig zags for no practical reason. I have run it a few times but its been about a year now. Its a nice alternative during hunting season when I avoid some other locations like Bull Mountain. I was there for the Dirty Spokes race a while back. The campground is nice if you can get a tent spot on the little peninsula.

You did the Thrill in the Hills too, Rob? That was an awesome race. Maybe it's just because I like XTERRA, but its a really good series. Good point by davidray about watching out for the bikers. The trail direction for he day will be posted at the bulletin boards at the trail head by the pavilion. Hey Paul, do you remember your last time for the trail?

My time was ~2.5 hrs. I'm pretty slow. I know I had a camera and stopped a few times for some deer. Though, it is my role in life to make all other runners seem fast. Come to think of it, my bike times in the race weren't much faster (3 laps in 7:04) as I spent much of it chewing up chains -> 3 chains + 6 or 7 repairs + time spent searching the leaves for links = 3 hrs of the 7 hr race spent on the side of the trail. This is why I like running so much better! I may do it again this year though but I'll do the 12 hr instead. You can find the trail map on the Yaba site. yaba.homestead.com/

Sweet! You did the Dirty Spokes race too? I wrecked when I did it and had to drop early, but I know what you mean. I can run it faster than I can bike it (Bike 1:45 run 1:40) unless I'm going down the gas line ;D

Sorry to hear about the wreck. I almost dropped several times due to all the work on the chain but thats a bit different than an accident (I'm recovering from a separated shoulder now). Really the primary difference for me between biking and running - I hate working on the bike. Are you going back next year - maybe a GUTS group showing? I really want to do the 12 hr. Tim is an awesome RD!

Well, I'm really out of biking shape right now , but maybe if we can get enough people, we could actually make a team and call it the GUTS team. I bet that would be good publicity probably. We would just have to be able to knock out about 50 minute laps every 3 hours. I bet the breaks in between really help out... Do you know any other members that bike?

Is there anybody who would be possibly interested in doing a 2 person or 4 person team for the 12 hour next year?
