Dear Family, Friends, Neighbors, and Colleagues,
Some of you may not have heard from me for some time, while others see me on a daily basis. Well, I'm getting back in touch with you now, and for good reason. Several weeks ago I made an important commitment, to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. With my help, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will raise over $80 million this year. They will use this money to make great progress toward curing leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and Hodgkin's disease, while improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Over the past 25 years, research funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has raised the survival rate of childhood leukemia from 5% to 80%!
This October, I will run the Chicago Marathon for the sole purpose of raising money in Daniel's honor. Daniel is three years old and in pre-k. The youngest of seven children, Daniel was diagnosed August of 2005 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (A.L.L)
Mahatma Gandhi once said, "We must be the change we wish to see in the world." In that spirit, I have set a goal of raising $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, with the knowledge that I will be part of the effort that one day produces a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and Hodgkin's disease. I invite you to join me in this effort by making a 100% tax-deductible contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please make checks payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or donate online at pages.teamintraining.org/ga/chicago08/jvogel. Please include anyone whose memory or honor you are making the donation in and I will run with them in my heart as well. I ask that any donations be made by August 15th, Daniel's 4th birthday.
So with Daniel and others like him in mind, I'm asking you to give to LLS. At least 75% will be spent on medical research and patient services. I gratefully welcome donations of any size. There's a lot of work to be done. We need more effective cures. We need treatments that don't have debilitating side effects. We need to discover the cause of leukemia, and learn how to prevent it. Please help.
Thank you,
Jennifer Wollstein Vogel
