I don't know Susan, the website says you must be a hermaphrodite to run Quote from Participation: "...you must be a male and female..." ;D All joking aside, this looks like a blast! I've always been pulled by the lure of multi-day stage races. Maybe next year... Have fun, and kick butt!

Susan, I just went into the website to check it out and I would be very careful about signing up. I just did something similar to this in March. An article will be in the next GUTS newsletter (and I just found out yesterday that it was accepted to Ultrarunning for the August edition). In that article I recount my experience and the dos and don'ts of accomplishing this type of run. After my experience the one thing that is crucial is organization. I didn't get the feeling this run was well organized. If you are going to do it then I would treat it as if you were planning to do this on your own and organize the run for yourself. If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer those. Good luck with your running. Patrick

Looks pretty organized to me. They transport your camping gear. All meals are covered. Aid stations on the course. Transportation where needed. Hot water showers. $500 for seven days of running, meals, and lodging. Hell, sign ME up ;D Oh wait, I'm not a hermaphrodite...d@mn!

If that's organized to you then have at it. There are doctor's in Atlanta that can fix your problem, you can be a he/she in no time at all.

I saw that male and female remark on the site....couldn't figure out if it was a typo or joke!
Patrick- I look forward to seeing your article! I've emailed the race director....he's done this race before. I hope I can correspond with some of the people who've done it in the past. Apparently it used to be the same distance but they did it in 6 days. As Sarah said, it sounds like he's got his routine down, but he was also still looking for volunteers. It does sound like a bargain- the race registration includes all campground fees and even a night in a hotel, all meals except one, and a ride back to the start. Sounds like the trail is beautiful but very rugged. I am not sure I am capable of this, but I may give it a try.

If you do it you might want to ask a few questions:
Are there other trails (official or unofficial) connecting into this trail and if so is it plainly marked which way to go at these intersections? Will you get a course profile? Are there stream/river crossings? if so how many and how deep and wide are the streams/rivers? What happens if someone gets lost or hurt? Are they providing locators to the racers or are you on your own? How busy or well used is this trail? Will there be other hikers or is it remote and rarely used? If you decide to have crew, where are all the access points for them? How well is this trail maintained? Are the maps up to date?
These are questions I would ask now after my experience on the Benton Mackaye Trail. I hope your training is going well. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. You might also want to contact David Horton. He is the guru of long trail running. But do it soon because he will be unavailable starting in the beginning of June when he tackles the Continental Divide Trail.

Thanks for the great questions!!! I appreciate your insight since I've never done a multi day before. It looks like the Tuscarora Trail is a pretty well established trail....it is apparently a spur of the AT and is blazed blue....however I have directional dyslexia and any trail run can become an adventure.....below is a wikipedia link to a desciption of the Tuscarora Trail en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuscarora_Trail

Sounds very similar to the Benton MacKaye. I tried to get to the Trail club's website but it would not open for me. Perhaps that is because I'm doing this from work. The BMT website was helpful for me in finding out what parts are well maintained and which aren't. Try to get in the website and see if they have updates about the trail. The more you know about the trail the more you will know what to expect.
