Passed on from Richard Angeli (President Kennesaw Mtn Trail Club) to you (slightly edited): The time has finally arrived. We're ready to start building the new Horse / Pedestrian bridge across John Ward Creek.
We will pour the concrete footings to hold the new 60 foot by 8 foot span on Saturday April 28 starting at 9:00 AM. Because of the terrain surrounding the site, we need to form a bucket brigade to move the wet concrete across the creek to the site.
We need 20 - 25 STRONG, committed people to help pour the concrete footings for the new pedestrian / horse bridge. If you can help, please call me [Richard Angeli] at (xxx) xxx-xxxx to sign up.
We don't usually do sign ups in advance, but in this case (i.e. handling wet concrete), we need to ensure that we have enough bodies available to get the job done in a timely fashion. If there is a firm commitment of 5 or more strong GUTS people here in the forum by [changed to] 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 20th, I'll commit to Richard as a group. Otherwise please just call Richard directly. Thanks Donald <much later> Redacted Richard's phone number.

OK. Sounds like everyone is still tired from the race or already has other plans for this weekend.
More information: - Both footings will be 3.5 cubic yards total. Only one footing's worth will have to carried by bucket brigade. - In case of rain, the date will change. Also, rain during the week before the pour may require a schedule change. - The actual bridge construction will be a few weeks after the footings are poured. A smaller crew will be needed. Guess who will be picked to help build the bridge.
So, even if you are already occupied for Saturday, April 28th, leave a note since the date may change because of the weather.
I'll extend the deadline to 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 20th to volunteer for a GUTS group effort.
Donald
P.S. Please bookmark this thread to stay updated.

Passed on from Richard Angeli (President Kennesaw Mtn Trail Club) to you (slightly edited): We desperately need help this Saturday to build the footings for the new bridge on John Ward Creek. If you can be there. please meet us at 7:30 AM at Kolb Farm on the corner of Powder Springs St and Cheatham Hill Rd. We’re starting early because we need to get the concrete delivered before the plants close at Noon.
We have found equipment including a pumper truck to get the concrete to the site. We still need people to help with digging, and other tasks.
This is the biggest one day effort the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club has undertaken since it’s start 4.5 years ago in the fall of 2002.
Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
Richard C. Angeli President Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club kemopres#mindspring.com (xxx) xxx-xxxx Note that the plan no longer includes carrying concrete in buckets across the creek, but help will still be needed. Please contact Richard directly and be sure to mention you are with GUTS! <much later> Redacted Richard's phone number and obscured his email slightly

Still need some more people to work on the footings for this bridge. Work includes constructing the footing forms. As noted above, we will not be carrying concrete by hand in buckets. We do need people and an additional wheelbarrow or two.
Meet us tomorrow (Sat., April 28th) at 7:30 AM at Kolb Farm on the corner of Powder Springs St and Cheatham Hill Rd.

Rich, how long would we be there? I could be there at 7:30 but would have to leave before 10. Would that be any help?

Yes, we could use the help as we only have about half the people we planned for even after adding the concrete pump truck.
Come late, leave early it's all good! (As they say...)

Despite some problems with a concrete plug in the hose, the footings have been poured.
Thanks to all that helped pouring the footings.

Due to scheduling problems the bridge will not be installed until late June to early July. Also the bridge will be 6 feet wide instead of the previously announced 8 feet wide. It will still be strong enough for horses and a big improvement over the currently installed (4? foot) wide bridge. Anyone who wants to help erect the bridge will be required to watch an instructional / safety video prior to helping. I'll post more details as I get them.

Due to scheduling problems the bridge will not be installed until late June to early July. Now looking at Saturday, July 21 with a "dang, we didn't finish" day of Sunday, July 22. These dates aren't set for sure yet.
