Hey guys, Does anybody know of a trail marathon or two around here (or maybe as far as East Tennessee) this summer (June thru August). Or, does anybody know of a website that might have a calendar of trail marathons?
Thanks

don't forget marathonguide.com , they have most of the marathons and the trail ones usually have trail in the name.

Thanks guys. I didn't see any on those sites, but I'll keep looking. I'd like to do some marathons this summer as part of my Pinhoti training, but I can't travel too far and I'd like to run them on trails instead of the streets. If any body hears of any, please let me know.

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

If any body hears of any, please let me know. We could always go to Ft. Mountain or Pine Mountain. I have run at both and they have some great trails. Both are about 1hr30 minutes from Atlanta. Fort Mtn is north and Pine Mountain is south. If you really want to train we could do training runs there!! Free and not to far.....let me know

;D While checking in at the Strollin Jim, I met a runner who invited me to this race. It will be good training for the Pinhoti 100M. I should be recovered from my beat up condition sometime this week. ;D
I think it was Diane Taylor, but I'm not thinking well.
June 20–22, 2008 Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race 22 mile / 18 mile / 20 mile Registration now open!
Three days of great trail running in the beautiful mountains surrounding Chattanooga. 20 miles on Lookout Mountain on day, 18 miles on Raccoon Mountain on day two and the 22 mile grand finale on Signal Mountain round out this challenging, but attainable series. Refuel each night at one of Chatttanooga’s great eateries.
My mental state is slow right now from the Jim, give me a few days to clear up my thoughts. This was a big effort from me.

www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=210799This is not a race, but a run I would like to do in the upcoming months. If I opt not to do the stage race in Chattanooga, I will make this go on Summer Solstice. But if not then, perhaps around 4th of July weekend. Should be good training, for what i do not know, but good training none the less. I do know one of the trails for 3 miles on this course is an actual creek bed, but the pay off at the top is supposed to be amazing. If interested let me know.

That run in the Smokies looks great. Just as a heads up -- the finish at Forney Creek (at least as it's marked on the map) does not have a paved parking lot with car access. The nearest trailhead lot is still ~4 more miles away. You can be picked up via boat at that finish though.

;D Got a jetski shuttle for it...
Going to skip Chattanooga stage race. I am going to do this run on the Solstice, June 21st, if anyone would like to join me. Have a friend who might arrange for a drop in the park, but no guarantee that will happen. Will most likely be self supported. Have arranged for shuttle to the dam that morning.
If interested drop me a line.

If you are looking for a good trail marathon, look no further!! GUTS will be hosting one this fall at Fort Mtn State Park. It will be a doozy. There will be a companion shorter race. Looks to be 12 miles unless i can stretch it another mile to make it a half marathon.
Date is still TBD. We have to chose between Sept 14, Oct 12, and Nov 2. The park would prefer we do it Nov2 (too many leaf watchers in Oct and too hot in Sept). Lots of pros and cons on each date.
I would REALLY appreciate feedback on the date as it needs to be decided ASAP so we can move forward.

A trail marathon at Ft Mtn SP would be great! Just my two cents on dates -- Nov 2 is the likely date for the Shut-In Ridge Trail Race near Asheville (it's usually the 1st weekend in Nov). I'm not sure how many people from GA go up for Shut-In, but it's a classic that is hard to pass up. The Sept and Oct dates are better -- at least from my perspective

;D It's not as hot as you may think up there. ;D Sept or Oct would be bettter, gives more time to prepare for Pinhoti. However, any date is fine with me, thanks for the heads up.

Hmmmm .... a marathon the weekend before Pinhoti? A good taper run?
I was hoping to do some this summer as part of back-to-back long training runs on the weekends.

Did the Pumpkin Butt go away? That one's scheduled for Oct. 12 currently.
Nov. 2 is the Day of the Dead. There's your theme. Daylight Savings Time ends too so extra sleep the night before.
Whichever date it ends up, sounds like a great idea.

;D Ok I'm still mentally not thinking right. ;D I will be in serious taper on the Nov 2 date, because Pinhoti is Nov 8th. Sept or Oct is a better date of the Pinhoti runners. I could do a 1/2. Hopefully I'll be tapering from 100-125 mile weeks, by then. This next week is critical for me because I must go into Pinhoti 100m training. I will need to give up all my pleasures in life and increase my mileage on the trails. Distance on the trails is not a bad pleasure however. And I need to hook up with the Colonel and the other Pinhoti runners. My base is 60m a week, but it's still slow, not the real stuff. Give me one more week to let my body return to normal, then I'll set up some great training runs on the trails, that helped me at Leadville 100m. I won't be able to do them at pace at first, but a few weeks will yield results. I am impressed with Susan Lance doing so many 100M runs. I can only imagine one a year, and that will take all of my talent and work. GL Susan.

September date is the weekend after the Blue Ridge Relay. I guess that would make it a recovery run.
