I had so much fun at my first 50K at Harbison Forest, I decided to try Sweetwater. I know several of you ran it last year and I would like some help deciphering the maps. Loops 1 and 3 are pretty clear, but I don't get loop 2. We must have to run parts of it twice to get 2 water crossings. Here's the link to the race website. www.sweeth20races.com/Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to run any extra miles. ;D

With any race there is always a possibilty of getting lost. I will be sweeping this race and was at the meeting Sunday for volunteers. I am hoping that you wont get lost and there should plenty of signs and help. My suggestion is to stop at the aid stations and look at the map. Each aid station will have a map of the course. Ask them where you are and where do you need to go. At each major intersection there should be someone there to direct you to the right trail. Have fun!!! And if you see me then you need to start running faster!! ;D

The maps on the website are from last year's course. Last year there was only one water crossing. If there are two water crossings (which is what the website says), then the maps on the website are no longer accurate. I would email someone from the race website if you really want to know what the course will actually be. Last year the course markings were inadequate, so hopefully they will improve them for this year.

Matt: there were actually two creek crossings last year. The crossing at the spillway is considered a creek crossing.

Sally is right!! This year is very similiar to last years course. The only difference, forgot to tell you Sally on Tuesday, is that when you guys get to the TOTW you will go all the way to the gate (school) on the first loop. This is pretty much what we did last year but by accident, but this year you will need to go all the way to the end. They will have a small aid station there with water and gatorade.
Then on the second loop you will not need to go to the gate. I believe you wont even need to go TOTW but rather turn to the power lines once you reach the road that goes to TOTW. But I am not sure about this as they were still discussing the possiblity of going to the middle of TOTW on the second loop.

They're still discussing the course? in any case, I will be there. I'll try to run with my camera, if I can find it by then...

I am still new to endurance trail running (converting over from being a Marathon Maniac on the roads.) I ran and enjoyed the Granite Grinder half last week. I'm not ready for the 50K yet, but I'll be giving the SweetH2O half a try on Saturday.
If anyone ran Granite Grinder last week, how does it compare to the course at SweetH2O?

the SH2O 1/2 course has changed since last year, and will include some road. overall though, i would say SH2O is a lot more technical than GG. There are certainly a few smooth jeep trail sections, but a lot of the trail is tricky, with many roots and rocks. it should be a good challenge!

Now that all depends.....did you run the 13.1 mile GG or the 11 mile version! ;D
If you ran the 11 mile version....SweetH2O might seem long!
See you out there on Saturday!

...If you ran the 11 mile version....SweetH2O might seem long! HAW HAW HAW HAW!!!! I took a wrong turn or two last year. It was my first 50K and those wrong turns were the first of many during the year!

Hope everyone has fun at the H20 this weekend. I'm so disappointed my IT band is keeping me from running. I was looking forward to the GG, SweetH20, Buncombe and all the rest. But I do have crosstraining options...
Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe race!
Cheers, Lucinda

just want to throw in my 2 cents for tomorrow - and wish everyone mad luck and swell steppings.
I, for one, am so excited I couldn't even sleep LAST night, ...so tonight should be a real struggle.
maybe sleep during the beginning road portion {blah}
see everyone there.

Good running.
