Does anyone know anything about this race?
It's the second annual, so I was hoping to find race reports from last year...
I guess not everyone feels the need to write endless drivel about every step they take like I seem to do... {wink}
Is anyone doing this race Saturday?
Anything else happening this weekend?

Christian - I ran the race last year and enjoyed it. I am running again on Saturday and hope to see you there. I thought the event was well organized for a first time, and expect this year to be better (BPRC is a new sponsor this year). Some candid comments:
1) for me, there weren't enough aid stations last year, and the stations weren't well stocked (just water, not sports drink, etc.)
NOTE: the emails for this year state there will be 3 stations at 4.5, around 7 mi and 11.5 mi, with water, sportsdrink and GU gels, which is a lot better.
I will likely run with my own hydration pack to avoid any troubles like last year (I am a sweaty dude and need the hydration!)
2) the trails we run on are bike trails, meaning they are well worn and hard packed (it was dry last year preceding the race - dont know how it will be if we have rain later this week). However, there were places where you can tell you're running on bike trails - like repeating whoop-tee-doos.
3) The race is in Winder and close to ATL. I live in town and can make it to the park in 45 min from my doorstep which is always good.
Cheers!
Rob

I've ridden the Ft. Yargo trails a lot on my mountain bike. I'll be there Saturday to run them. It'll be interesting to see them from the running perspective!
Was the run last year in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction? It's easier to bike the trail clockwise, even with the climb up the gas line. I'm not sure which is better for running....

Lucinda - the race was clockwise last year. I don't know whether it will be that same direction this year.
Cheers!

"whoop-tee-doos" ;D
there were lots of those. I really enjoyed this race last year. There are no major uphills on this course but countless small ones.
The event was great fun last year and I'll be there on Saturday as well. Come and say "hello"!

I look forward to seeing you guys & gals at the race tomorrow morning. The weather is saying we'll still get some rain tonight, so that should be fun with the added "mud factor!" ;D
Cheers!

It was a fun race! I think I like running it better than biking it (well, running it feels easier when you're not carting a 25-lb bike along with you!). The weather was fantastic and the race well organized.
Christian, Rob and other GUTS members...I wish I could have recognized you, to at least say Hello, but I'm sure I'll see you all at future events.
Cheers, Lucinda

Wow, was the elevation gain really 5,000+ feet? I know it was a lot of up and down, but that's more than I would have expected. Thanks for the data. I need to invest in some sort of GPS device

We've got to get another GUTS gear order in. Perhaps the Colonel could model <GUTS thong> some of the newest items at the next training run. <On second thought, perhaps we try to get a different (more shapely) model!>

a GUTS gear order is in the works
question for all - which is more important for a technical shirt - if it is Patagonia brand or the price? The difference is about $5

This Newbie needs some GUTS clothing - the $5 difference doesn't matter to me - whatever's the best for the group.
I saw 4 or 5 cars with GUTS stickers on them too, so I know the group definitely had a presence at the event.
Regarding the elevation change, I don't know what to say on that one because it sure did not feel like we went up and down that many feet (especially with the Mountain Mist being so fresh in my mind and legs!).

I'd rather have the Patagonia brand technical shirt and pay extra.

Anything is fine with me, as long as it's as lightweight as possible (ie. silkweight). Sports bras and tank tops/sleeveless tops for women, please. I've looked at some of the past fforum postings re: clothing and stuff looks great!!

Hey all, I'll second that this was a good race and there were lots of Whoop-de-Doo's. (As I yelled going over each one.)
However, for those of us not naturally born runners, the gas line hill was definitely not so fun.
The big hill at the beginning, supposedly to space us out, wasn't too bad, and in fact didn't space us out very well. I was stuck in the crowd for the first few miles before everyone was finally able to pass me.
Now, where do I get one of them bumper stickers so people can walk by my car and point?

Dave - Great report! and, BTW, great blog site and nice interview with the Prez! bigRahn - the GUTS sticker is the coolest status symbol in the Atlanta running community. It is a treasured token of honor and is bestowed only on those who are worthy. Fortunately, all it takes to be worthy is a completed membership application and a check for the $15 annual membership fee! The sticker should come in the mail along with your GUTS membership card. This is new feature this year, so I "think" I have that right. If not, I will deny ever typing it!

Thank Colonel. I dropped my check in the mail on my way out to the Thrill in the Hills. Walking to the mailbox afterwards would prove to be too difficult.
(Thanks to Christian here and my friend Roman telling me to just suck it up...just need to go without starbucks for a couple days. And no, normally I don't whine this quite much. Next year, I won't have another event planned the day before. If I do, someone better slap some reality into me. ;D)

Cool - BigRahn joined - right on big pa'pa
...and my training partner, Sean O. joined too.
...and Sarah, check your logs, some mad traffic coming to GUTS from Run50Miles.org
Maybe I can be the unofficial GUTS Pimp.
...then, I can finally get some GUTS gear ;D
in all seriousness though - this is a great group and love promoting the coolness of everything GUTS. The execs of the group do a kick-ass job and I, for one, and have much appreciation.
it's fun to watch it grow.
