I think I spend more time looking for new races than running them. Anyway, here's what I've found. Chattanooga's trail/ultra club, Running in the Boonies, is hosting several new events this year. In addition to their second annual Scenic City Trail Marathon and 1/2 (May 24) and Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race (22, 18, 20 miles on June 20-22), they also have on their message board the Lookout Mountain 100K/10K on December 20, 2008. Here's the link (no other information as of yet): www.runintheboonies.org/forum/index.phpThe West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners have a new 50 mile race, Cheat Mtn. Moonshine Madness, on August 22-23. It starts at 9pm on Friday, August 22. Here's the link: www.wvmtr.org/Cheat%20Mt%20Moonshine%20Madness/CMMM%20Home.htmFinally, it looks like the people who are putting on the Mt. Cheaha 50 K are going to have the Pinhoti 100 sometime in 2008. I suspect that it's 100 miles because the Pinhoti trail is around 100 miles, so we may have a "local" point-to-point 100 mile trail race well within driving distance this fall! Here's the link: mountcheaha50k.org/pinhoti100.html (it's currently under construction). Anyone find any other new interesting races? Matt

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

I assume if they are planning a 100 miler that it is going to be a 2009 race?

Tony,
You are definitely ready for the distance fifty miler. Just remember, though, that the 50-miler in WV is at night, so you do need to get used to running at night. Also, 7,000 feet elevation gain is not insignificant. I am not writing these things to scare you, but for you to know what you are getting into. I know at least one other person who is thinking about doing it as his first 50 miler, so you won't be the only one.
