I have signed up for it, but with the way my race luck is going lately, I won't believe I'm running it until the gun sounds and I'm huffing and puffing my way up the mountain.

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

I just got an email from the RD of Cheaha stating that runners can register online at Active - even though it's not evident on the Cheaha 50K web site ...(at least I couldn't find it)
1) go to Active 2) search for "cheaha"
...and go from there. It's kinda setup funny on active, but if you fiddle with it, you'll eventually get it to go through.
Woo Hoo! Looking forward to this one.

I was curious how this race compares to Mt Mist? I was under the impression that Mt Mist was "Alabama's toughest trail run". However, after comparing runners times who completed both races, most people were 20 - 30 minutes slower on Cheaha. I heard it was rainy last year and that may partially explain the slower times? Any thoughts?

cheaha has about twice as much climbing as mist (i think), but more open sections (dirt roads and such). there are still some very technical sections on the cheaha course
overall, it is a tougher race.
