I got this notice from the BRMM RD...
I did this last year, and really had a great time. As the name implies, it's open to runners 40 and older. There's no web site. Contact the RD, Ron Zadroga, at ronzadroga@tds.net for entry form.

What do you get for your $60.00? That seems kind of high for an ultra!

What do you get for your $60.00? That seems kind of high for an ultra! Pasta feed, quality long-sleeve race T and ballcap, postrace food (great chili), finisher's coffee mug, 5 well-provisioned aid stations.

AND, I mailed in my registration yesterday (8/15) ;D
As far as what you get for you money, I've always felt that the pre-race meal should be optional. I rarely eat the pre-race food, and almost never eat pasta the night before a race. An frequently I can't get there in time. Just my 2 cents.

I guess it makes the logistics easier for the RD. As far as the $60 fee, yes, it's a bit high for this type of race, but I've gotten a lot less when paying a lot more. OTOH I've gotten a lot more when paying a lot less ($10 for the Hitchcock Woods 50k, that was a bargain).

Well, maybe I can make a 6 mile trail run out of this for me.

I also ran the BRMM last year bringing up the back end. I think the course is really fun and challanging. I found trying to "speed up" on the down hills was difficult due to the complete covering of leaves. I terms of offering an under 40 run for spite as someone mentioned. I think they should open the event but I know they were struggling with permits from the forest service. Also, I figured they were just trying to knock off some of the older crowd with the hidden obstacles. I do not think the fee was too high. They provided a really quality event with a cool shirt and very nice finishers mug. I also really like supporting some of the local events because I spend a lot more traveling to events out West to bring up the back end of those runs.

I was going to post a question about what the course was like (I'm trying to decide if I need to wear trail shoes) but I think I got my answer by reading the race report that thenner provided the link to.
Sounds like I need to stick with the trail shoes.
Is anybody else running this one? I finally sent my application in last week. There is still a chance that my darling wife will put her foot down and not let me go, but as of now I'm really looking forward to it!

From reading the race report on the Marathon Manics site, it appears the course is out 'n back as follows: • 10 miles, jeep road, gentle climb. • 6 miles, Benton McKaye trail to turnaround. • 6 miles, Benton McKaye trail • 10 miles, jeep road, gentle descent. Anyone who feels like complaining (albeit sarcastically) about the nature of this race is strongly encouraged to become an RD themselves :-p

i thought i heard that the RD was changing the course a little bit to reduce the amount of jeep road and increase the single track. maybe i dreamt that?

gitagoing is trying to be resourceful as space is limited on the GUTS server; how do you manage Sarah ?? since a few years ago(60) pain management is the key to continue making a decent showing at any of the Ultra Runs, after PB(decent showing?) rest ended this morning with a Lotto run. Found 2 silver beads, one coin. Things you find on the trail(colors, sounds, creatures) tell you a lot about your day, season, life. Crunch crunch of falling leaves; red, yellow, brown, frosty; tell you its not food, its preparation for the next run(weight goal); tell you its fall and time for BRMM 50K(run goal);tell you rest is over, stop licking your wounds(life goal). Last year BRMM was great and fun; sometimes just meeting your old friends and new friends that share the goals of that log you paste on your mirror each month and say this is what I need, is worth the entry. If you have read the race report it is accurate;one of your FAV Guts members gitagoing is mentioned twice!!! the one that got lost;hey it happens when you need to make a decision in the waining years of racing gitagoing usually tries to capture the spirit of a run;so eee carries a camera and forgets about racing(no excuse). Some photos were sent to Sarah and the Prez about last year BRMM;maybe there is someway to share them for the ones that want to run this year. gitagoing also sent PB pictures, if you want a personal copy send me E-Mail ldipper@bellsouth.net Cost of morning run: found penny $0.01 two silver beads $.20 (these are special;like those NEON signs at Joe's Crab house and the one in Texas on your way to see the WEST-72 pound steak;eat is all and its free(wish my wife understood that); the beads will attract those big fish if your have a big bait on in deep water!!!) ;D fantasy five tickets $5.00 Total: -$4.79 Fantasy Five Tickets potential $350,000 Price of preparation of post = priceless

• 10 miles, jeep road, gentle climb. • 6 miles, Benton McKaye trail to turnaround. • 6 miles, Benton McKaye trail • 10 miles, jeep road, gentle descent. Yep. When I originally read about the course I was thinking 20 miles of dirt road out of a 31 mile total might make it OK to wear my regular running shoes, but the 12 miles of trail sounded pretty technical, so I'm going with the trail shoes. .... I think.
