I was passing through Seward Alaska last weekend and got to "run" up and down Mount Marathon. Too bad I didn't know about the big race on July 4th before making my plan arrangements or I would have tried to enter.
I was wondering of any other GUTS members have run this famous course or if any have done the race on July 4th?
It was a heck of an experience, it raises 3200 feet in less than 3 miles, with the top 1/2 being nothing but shale. The start of the trail is about 200m of cliff where you are essentially rock climbing. It's tough going up, and very interesting coming down.
I took a disposable camera with me which I had to toss up to ledges above me on the climbing part, and then climb up to it. Hopefully there are some good pictures from it.

I did not have time to climb or run it as a cruise ship would leave before I could finish, but I did climb past the rock climbing part. I believe a lottery is used as numerous applications and limited numbers are allowed. Would like to see your pictures posted.
