I have an insane pain in the middle/inside of my left heel. Its been slightly present for the better part of a year and gets worse after long runs, wearing flip-flops, etc. I've taken a week or two off before but it keeps coming back mildly.... Then I ran the Thanksgiving marathon and now it hurts so bad I want to puke! Not training now isn't really an option anymore because I have a race in April. Can anyone give me any idea of what it might be and how to help ease the pain? PLEASE?

Jennifer, Here is a link to an article that I found on heel pain ... www.runnersrescue.com/Heel_Pain_Running.htmAlso, have you tried buying some inserts for your shoes? If it hurts worse with flip flops, etc. it sounds to me like you need more cushioning in that area. I have been having trouble with the balls of my feet. I bought some inserts at Big Peach the other day that seem to really help.

Heel pain can often be a sign of plantar fasciaitis (sp). I would recommend going to Phidippides and asking to talk to Gregory. He should be able to tell you what's wrong with your foot and what things you can do to fix it. Best of all, it doesn't cost anything to talk to him. He is around on Tuesday-Saturday from 10-6 at the Ansley Mall location (he leaves early on Friday). Other people from the store can also help you, but he's probably the most knowledgeable.

Dr Perry Julian was very good for me. He helped me stabilize a bad foot so it normally doesn't bother me at all. He used to do some trail running and works on athletes a lot.

Julian's partner, Peebles, is also quite good. I've been having some trouble with a Mortons neuroma for a while now and we've been working through it well.

I had something very similar to that. My wife (a chiropractor/Trigger point specialist) was able to adjust the Calcaneous (sp?) bone which gave immediate relief. People who run on the trails or around the bends on the track have these issues a lot.
Also, Cold Laser and (of course) Ice should offer relief.
Let me know if you needmore info.
