Hi Everyone,
I will be visiting Atlanta this week for work and have four to five hours free Tuesday morning to go running. Ideally, I'd like to run -- at least partially -- on a dirt surface and avoid as many traffic lights as possible. My hotel is in Buckhead. I'm not at all familar with the area. Any recommendations?
Thank you all in advance for the suggestions.
Happy Trails,

I'm not too familiar with that area but it's not too far of a run down to Piedmont Park. (I'm sure others will chime in soon with better suggestions.)
Too bad your free time is not in the afternoon! You could join us for our group run at Kennesaw Mtn.!

not knowing exactly where you are staying, i can give a few suggestions, but they may be miles away. just know that there is very little in the way of dirt trails in buckhead. piedmont park is nice, although it is more mid-town. there is a 1-2 mile loop around atlanta memorial which is just across northside drive from the edge of bobby jones golf course (or at least there used to be a path when i ran there 10 years ago). this is located sort of south of buckhead. there are some nice trails at oglethorpe univ which is on peachtree street several miles north of phipps plaza. and the neighborhood behind oglethorpe - silver lake - has trails around the lake. there is also a 3+ mile paved path around chastain park, which is not too far from where roswell rd and piedmont intersect. which reminds me, that my old office complex - Piedmont Center (on Piedmont, just northwest of peachtree and buckhead loop) - had a 1+ mile trail in the back of the complex. good luck!

The Chattahoochee River/ Cochran Shoals area is North on I-75 just past I-285. It's the prettiest area to run that is close to Buckhead. Access is off of Interstate Parkway North. Here is a link: www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/maps.htmThere is a small fee to park but well worth it. Good luck on your run and stay.
