I'm headed to the beach this weekend with my wife, daughter .... and in-laws. I had scheduled myself for a double run on Saturday of 15 in the morning and 10 that afternoon. Now that we are going to the beach, and my schedule for the day will be dictated by my mother-in-law, I have serious doubts as to whether I can get two runs in.
So, my question is, would a 15 miler on Friday and a 15 miler on Saturday be as beneficial as a 6 miler on Friday and the double run on Saturday? Or should I figure out a way to get the double done on Saturday? (i.e get up real early and get the 15 done beofre anybody wakes up and then maybe do the 10 after everybody goes to bed .... or when everybody is napping in mid afternoon.)
My schedule this week has been:
Monday - 7 Tuesday - 8.7 in the a.m.; the GUTS run in the p.m. (was that about 6?) Wednesday - 5 Thursday - scheduled for 8 Friday - scheduled for 6 Saturday - scheduled for 15 a.m., 10 p.m. Sunday - rest
Total - 65.7
Last week I did 55 miles, including 21.5 on Sunday. (sat. was my rest day). I try to stick with the "don't increase by more than 10% a week" rule, so jumping to 65 is a little more than I would normally do, but I wanted to do some running when my legs were tired and heavy ... as training for H2T.
Sorry for such a rambling post ... anybody got a suggestion?
I just thought of another solution. I could cut the Saturday run back to only a 5 miler but do it with my mother-in-law on my back. My legs would definitely feel tired and heavy but I don't think the constant yapping in my ear would have any H2T training benefit.

i am not ignoring that! we are VERY helpful (and cheerful) at the aid stations, not like mother-out-laws! although an outlaw may be more of an incentive to run....run...run!!!!
anyway, it is tough running at the beach. i would vote to get up way early and do 1 run of however far you can manage. it will be hot as "trot" by 7am, so you will get plenty of heat acclimiatization. not to worry about the double, you should be fine with just 1 run

Thanks everybody! The only hard parts about getting up early at the beach are: too much beer the night before, and/or. listening to my mother-in-law complain that I made too much noise getting out the door (a feather hitting the floor wakes this woman up) and that I woke everybody up and she couldn't get back to sleep and why do you run anyway and you know that's bad for your knees and you're going to end up a cripple old man and I'm so tired today it must be because Spurgeon got up so early and woke me up did I tell y'all that I couldn't get back to sleep you know my doctor said it is important for me to get my rest maybe we could do some sightseeing today if everybody isn't too tired from waking up so early I know I'm tired but I'll do whatever y'all want I just wish I had gotten more sleep ....

Hey! Mothers-in-law at aid stations!
THAT would keep 'em from staying too long.
Now all we need is a catchy "Rent a mother-in-law" slogan.

HAW HAW!! Good one! of course some of our mothers are MILs in Training ... they just don't know it yet! I kinda wimped out at the beach. On Friday I decided to do 6 - the first three were with my daughter who had to walk alot due to a gimpy ankle. On Saturday I ran 10 and then went up to the room to get my daughter who said she would attempt a 6 mile run ... she grunted, rolled back over and went to sleep, so, instead of going back out by myself I made some coffee and sat on the balcony watching all of the young bikini clad women taking their morning strolls out to the beach to claim their spots for the day. In the afternoon, the MIL changed the time for supper on me and I didn't have time for a long run so I punted it and hung out with my daughter at the pool.

sheesh - i cann empathize with Janice comment about heat by 7:30
In Key Largo last week it was 89 degrees by 6:30a.m. on some of my running days. Clip in one hand, bottled water from the occasional convenience store in the other.
I will say running in the Keys makes it easy to gauge mileage ...addresses are expressed a mile markers so I just ran mile marker to mile marker. {grins}
Very excited for H2T {...and feeling hip and cool using the acronym}

Remember what goes around..............you'll be the pa-in-law one day. Stay on her good side. Can't be that bad. Trainman LOL - actually my mother-in-law is great. Nice as can be. Even if she is one that loves to make a schedule and expects everybody to do what she decides needs to be done. HAW! She feeds me well too. Sometimes too much. MIL - Anybody want anything to eat? Me - no ma'am. MIL - Are you sure? Me - Yes ma'am. MIL - How about a sandwich? Me - No thank you. MIL - Would like a piece of pie? Me - No thank you. MIL - You need to eat something. How about I get Harold (my FIL) to make you a milkshake? Me - No thank you. MIL - Are you sure? ... (This goes on all day - as I said she is as sweet as can be, but can't take no for an answer.)
