Thoughts/comments/suggestions will be most appreciated....
My left knee has been sore/achy the last 3-4 weeks. I am concerned because the soreness is internal - back behind the knee cap and not external. I don't remember twisting or otherwise tweaking my knee beyond the typical range of motion. I thought it was my body's way of telling me my running shoes cushioning has worn out and it was time to purchase new shoes. I did purchase the new shoes (went from Nike street shoes to Brooks) and the pain continues. I stopped running for about 10 days and the pain went away (it also reduced went away when I took Tylenol). Well, feeling good about things, I took a short run around the neighborhood last night and unfortunately the pain has returned.
Have any of you encountered anything like this in the past? If so, were you able to treat it on your own or do you recommend visiting the doctor? At this point, I am inclined to see the doctor because with the pain being internal, I don't want to risk damaging (or further damaging) anything in the knee's internal structure.
Your input will be appreciated. Cheers!

Go see the doc. Stop running now, as chances are the doc is going to tell you to stop for a few weeks on top of taking some x-rays so he can attempt to figure out what the problem is. If he tells you to see a physical therapist, let me know and I'll pass along contact information for a really good one.
Good luck.

Thank you Jason and Lucinda. I am not going to run any more until I get to the bottom of the problem. I am making a doctor appt. tomorrow and we'll go from there - hopefully (fingers crossed!) some kind of inflammation and something that can be readily treated and have me back on the trails/road before too long.
Cheers!

Quick follow:
I met with Dr. Tom Meyers, of Pinnacle Sports Medicine (thanks to Mike C at Big Peach for the recommendation!), about 2 weeks ago. Dr. Meyers x-rayed the knee and said alignment was slightly off. The suggestion was some muscle-related exercises to strengthen the knee and to pull the cap back into alignment (sorry for the layman terminology, but that’s all I know). Anyhow, the recommended course of action was to follow the exercise program and have a follow up visit in 6 weeks. Dr. Meyers said that 9 times out of 10 the exercise works. So far, he’s correct in that the exercise has been helpful and I have (THANK GOODNESS!) been able to run again, even hitting Kennesaw Mtn last weekend.
Cheers!

Well I'll be giving Dr. Meyers a call of my own soon. Glad to hear the exercises are working. I've been trying my own regiment of stretching and strengthening for a while now and its not working. In fact, a little worse.
I hate being injured.
