So who's doing Hinson Lake on Sept 19? I'm toying with the idea myself. May need a ride up since Ray'm has to work Friday night and wouldn't be able to join me until Saturday.

We talked about this over pizza last night. Sandbaggin' Kena, Three-kids Tony, and Richcheese, all were talking about going up.

At MPC last night it seemed as if the entire western half of the table was planning to go. The biggest drawback is the drive. It's about 5 1/2 hours from Downtown Atlanta. Either arrive the day before or leave at 2:00 a.m. for the 8:00 a.m. start. I think arrive the day before is probably best.

Hinson Lake is a 24 hour run in Rockingham NC. It's on Sept 19-20. The drive is part of the attraction to me...ONLY 5-1/2 hours. I'd definitely drive up Friday afternoon and get a good night's rest. I've already talked a friend into crewing for me. I love 24 hour runs but haven't done one in several years. I would be seriously undertrained, so wouldn't do well, but it would give me a reason to train. And, like I said, I really enjoy 24 hour runs. Just weird that way. More info: Hinson Lake 24 Hour Run

I really enjoyed Hinson Lake last year. Great people, great support, nice course. It would have been even better without the mud, but it was a blast. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to give it a go this year or wait for a later 24-hour. I did two 24-hours in 7 days last year. Perhaps not my wisest move ever...

How about a little logistics meeting at the west end (away from the door) of the table after the "First Tuesday" run on the 8th 1st. Anyone have a Winnebago???

Oh Hell yes!
Look at the entrants! It will be awesome to see so many familiar faces after my last two races held clear across the country.
Lotsa GUTS folks! ...and many Southeastern regulars.
Woo hoo! I'm excited.

Ill jump in before everyone else..... note: I didnt get to the race until 1 am.
Vikena killed it! 2nd female! she ran over 104 miles!!!!!!!! what a champ! ;D ;D ;D
Christian ran around 80 I believe... what a badass 2 weeks after cascade crest 100 mile!
I got in about 12.5 miles before the beer hit me. haha I passed out for about 45 mins to wake up to christian running barefoot the last couple of laps.
Jonothan Savage ended up running like 132.something miles. new course record
Tom Wilson and Donald were there running too. not sure how many miles they ran.
Injured and crazy Matt Kahrs ended up running 59 miles or so before the pain was unbearable from his already injured foot. Matt youre nuts haha
That was what I saw. I felt bad because I really just showed up and pulled the David Ray and ate most of the food

Each time I expand my race distance / time horizon, I learn things. The Hinson Lake 2009 lesson?: CHAFING I split my race plan into 8 3-hour blocks: 1, 2 and 3: As planned 4: My lube gives out half way around the course. As I John Wayne'd back to the start I get a line on some "super lube", but it was too late. I waddle out a total of 3 (1.52 mile) laps in 3 hours. 5 and 6: I sleep, hoping for some recovery 7: I wake to " someone" yelling "Matt Kahrs, where are you?", the length of "tent city". Roused, I walk some more laps consistent with my block 7 plans. 8: Experiment with some walk/run laps. Discover that the pain is about the same either running or walking. Pass Christian at least once ;D after he starts some last minute "safety laps". Total: 36+ laps; 55+ miles (88+ Km; 52+ Ksmoots)

The Hinson Lake 2009 lesson?: CHAFING Don, have you tried wearing Under Armour compression shorts under your running shorts? I started doing that a couple of years ago and haven't had any chafing problems since.

I'm about 3:43 running across the dam with my banana. (This was one of the two final laps. I was worried I'd cramp up without a marker.) The banana is a place-marker for the final fractional lap. The rules require that you NOT eat your banana. However, if you wait for the partial lap recording crew, the RD allows you to eat your yellow running buddy. I kept the peel for about an hour before I finally tossed my "souvenir" in the trash...
