I had a great time volunteering today @ the Dowdell Knob station. You runners make it look so easy!
I was happy to finally have a chance to put some faces to names I've seen around here.
Sarah did a terrific job.
And we couldn't have asked for better weather.

Thanks to all the GUTS crew out there yesterday. Volunteers were great. Thanks to Sarah for putting it all together. That was my first Ultra but not my last. Since I am Ultra Slow my garmin 405 ran out of juice but attached is a link to MapMyRun with 33 of the course miles and elevation chart www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/ga/alpharetta/889699451961Thanks Again Everybody Dan

Yes! A wonderful race! Many thanks to ALL the volunteers, those at the chilly aid stations, those couped up inside all day, and especially Sarah for organizing this event.
Yes - I got a bit 'lost' a few times - but the course markings from the GUTS perspective were excellent. The leaves that look like rocks and the rocks that look like leaves made for a slow day. I know I'm getting older (and slower), but that course ate my lunch - and I feel like I ran pretty well.
Thanks again to all and I look forward to the Results.

Big thanks to Sarah and the volunteers!
It was a beautiful day for a run. This was my longest distance to date, and the course kicked the crap out of me. On the trail I swore off running forever but this morning I had second thoughts, of course. I'll be back and ready for more at the FA.

On the trail I swore off running forever but this morning I had second thoughts, of course. Hahaha. I do that every, single race. ...wondering what my problem is... then, register for another one. It's a disease. I second all those thank you sentiments to Sarah and the volunteers. I got to run some miles with Janice, and that's always super cool for me. The veterans just ooooze cool, calm and collected. Great, challenging course - I didn't have too many lost problems, but I certainly battled with those hidden, sneaky rocks. Great day! ...of course, report to follow. Today, I ache.

i was so happy that sarah let me run pmtr, that is until i started running pmtr...... man i felt like crap the first 20 miles, but it was fun to see all my folks like tony, christian, drew and finally robert as i finally caught up to them after my slow start it was kind of cold for picture taking, but i did take a few. www.flickr.com/photos/getguts/sets/72157610864405715/thank you to all the volunteers. i really enjoyed being out there and very much thank you for all your help. Esp Steve who knew exactly what i needed and Jay for that advil and TP it was a tough trail, with lots of rocks and leaves, but it is a lot of fun and a great run for anyone interested in some rocky, fun trails

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

Three cheers for Andrew H.
He stayed back for almost 10 minutes helping some girl find the right trail again.
I tried for about a minute and gave up.
I didn't have the patience.

Haha... Yeah I know who you are talking about, I saw her heading the wrong way and just figured she was just some random jogger. I felt pretty bad after I realized she wasn't. But yeah that "trail" was crazy hard with those stupid leaves on all the rocks. I made the entire race without falling and I spilled on the last mile. Guess i needed to HTFU...

I got lost between last aid station and finish!! Me and another runner ( can't remember his name only that he was from Columbus) kept following the "blue blazes" and wound up going a mile back up to the road. Kinda of a weird feeling knowing you are almost done but are lost. Fortunately he talked me out of throwiing myself in front of the next vehicle coming down the road and we ran back down trail. At that point some angels were on the trail pointing people in the right direction. I figure we ran 42 miles.. that's bonus points in the "live to tell about it" category! Thanks Again Every Body ( never thought I would ever run more than 13.1)
