I went to the river park at the end of Columns Drive to run today, so no treasures (I was going to run 14, but had to quit after 7 ... I was pooped!)
Anyway, because I know gitagoing is dying to know, here is my haul from yesterday!
24 - tire weights (3 of which were almost five inches long!)
6 - bolts
2 - lug nuts - the big kind
1 - two inch by one inch hunk of copper
1/2 - iron water meter cover (seven inches across - 3.5 inches deep)
1 - ten inch nail
1 - car pulley wheel thingy - 5.5 inches by one inch
1 - "rod style" tent stake - six inches long
1 - 8 inch solid steel rod (one inch in diameter)
1 - bicycle wrench
1 - ten inch piece of rebar
1 - eleven inch trimmer blade
2 - Master locks
1 - 2 inch by 2 inch cube of steel with a threaded whole through it
1 - Fork - I don't think it is real silver, but it is a heavy gauge, nice fork
1 - quarter
2 - dimes
2 - nickels
6 - pennies - one of them is folded completely in two, but I'm assuming it is still legal tender
My hands have been cramping all day today from carrying all of this crap yesterday!

;D Back in from an adventure on the Strolling Jim Practice course. Hey it's hot out there. ;D The Pinhoti Road Gods are sending too much treasure my way. I don't think I will be able to take up my weight training program, because I'm totally exhausted after caring all the treasure from the run. The Pinhoti Piggy Bank is the toughest COACH, I have had in my life, really! Roads are not what I imagined for training for a trail run of 100 miles, but it is effective. I do a few runs on the trails, but the real stuff right now is on the roads in the heat. 14 miles today, was hot, started late. Got back at 1:30P so about 3:40 on the road and hills. The Pinhoti Gods gave me the chance to carry 8 tire weights, two dimes, four pennies, four aluminum serving plates plus the beer cans(about 4 #), what's up I just ran this course last week. Makes you think people throw a lot of God's gifts away. June Piggy Bank Sarah's Da Southside Pinhotti Aid Bank = $0.00 Total = $0.46 Sally = $0.02 Total = $8.43 Slw Runner = $0.00 Total = $0.20 Bag O' Sand = $0.98 Total = $5.45 cardmaster = $0.00 Total = $0.43 ricodorsey = $0.00 Total = $0.12 richcheese = $0.09 Total = $0.45 gitagoing = $11.60 Total = $20.38 prez = $0.10 Total = $0.43 The Vogels = $0.00 Total = $0.00 Aid Station Piggy Bank = $20.63 If you wish a real training COACH, try laying out some road courses from your home that connect with trails, that are varying distances, that include the hardest hills there, and try to join the Pinhoti Piggy Bank. The goal is to devote yourself to filling the Pinhoti Piggy Bank (to pay for entry). The more miles you do the more your Piggy Bank get full, the better your mental and physical condition is, the better prepared you are. Work toward 70 - 100m weeks, then the Piggy Bank will be full and your may have a good Pinhoti 100 Mile run, it still will not be easy. The Pinhoti Piggy Bank COACH teaches, gives lessons, has a goal, and pays us for the training. gitagoing

Pinhottie Piggy AID Banks are exempt from the rules. Any donations count to help make a great run happen. Sarah please report any Pinhottie Aid coinage. ;D gitagoing

Very successful 12 miler today. I started the run with the intention of holding a steady pace, therefore I was going to try and resist the temptation to add to my piggy bank ... but ...
At mile two, I saw a 12 inch pipe. How could I not pick it up?
Then I found another lug nut (somebody is definitely about to lose a wheel!) so I put it in my pocket.
Then I saw a penny ... and it was right next to a tire weight so, of course, I had to pick both of them up and put them in my pocket.
Found another penny ... this time next to a 2 inch bolt.
Then I found ANOTHER penny! ... next to some kind of brass plug type thing.
So now I have gone about 9 miles and my pocket is pulling my Patagonia shorts down (thanks to the fact that the string broke on them about the third time I wore them!)!! So, I stop at Big Peach to unload my burden.
On the way home I found a dollar bill! I had just passed an old lady walking her dog, and about twenty yards further up the sidewalk I came up on the dollar! A couple of seconds slower and she would have gotten to it first! Major score!
Today's treasures:
1 pipe, 1 tire weight, 1 brass thingy, 1 lug nut
3 - pennies 1 - paper dollar! Sweet.
Total - $1.03

hey gitagoing, I forgot to mention I picked up three additional tire weights on the way home yesterday.
I know have about 22 pounds of assorted metals, maybe I'll swing by the recycling center today on the way up to Kennesaw.
Btw - I saw this today and thought of Pinhoti and also our resident poet ...

;D Short six today, only found one penny, but some aluminum and something, which I have no idea of what it is, but it weighs three pounds and looks like a major operational part off something that passed by. ;D Needed to cut my run to Kell High School short by a mile ;D Found 19 tire weights, two nickels, a dime and ten pennies. This stuff gets heavy after going over 5 miles. I think I left about 5 pounds of treasure on the route, so guess I'll need to go back tomorrow. The two pounds of aluminum and copper crushed me. Where do you take all of that metal to get cash? The Marietta Recycling Center. I took mine by there on Tuesday, but I forgot you had to sign up for a customer number and I didn't have time to do all of that. I asked the guy how much I would get per pound, and the answer is $0.20 per pound. I have a little over 22 pounds of metal, so I shoould get about $4.50 or so. (not worth the gas to drive over there if you are making a special trip ... fortunately the MRC is very near the Prez's house, so I can drop stuff off on the way to the Tuesday night run!)

;D Ok sorry guys, let me provide some input and maybe some help ;D
A recycling center pays you based on commodity prices. It's different for various metals. You will need to separate your treasures into lead, copper, aluminum or other metals.
Lead pays = $0.25 per pound Aluminum pays = $0.40 per pound I think copper pays more so save that for a while, it's reaching precious metal status.. Do not turn in any gold or silver you find.
Please don't lump it all together. You will lose the maximum $$$$ for your efforts.
You will be getting the best a recycling center can offer you for your treasures, because they have the management and costs of operations. You will be getting about one tenth of what it is actually worth of your efforts.
Commodity prices today are:
Copper is $3.95 per lb Gold is $933 per Troy Oz Silver is $18.37 per Troy OZ Lead is $1.65 per lb Aluminum is $3.15 per pound
rest of metals commodity prices are near $2.00 per pound, so you only git $0.20 per pound at their center, if you lump it together.
there are various places to reclcle in the Atlanta Metro area, so choose one near you and ask them what stuff is worth.
Hope this helps y'all fill the pinHOTTie Piggy Bank.
my karma keeps going down, guess i'm not liked.

Thanks gitagoing, I had all of my metal in one big bag! I'll try to separate it ... but I doubt I can tell the difference between some of them.

;D OK i'm trying to stay positive here ;D I think i'm attracting metal and coins and Aluminum and stuff. I can't compelete a 5 mile run without being weighted down. On my July 4 th run . the Pinhotie gods gave me 32 tire weights, 19 pennies, a quarter, a ratchet socket , two pounds of aluminum. copper and two BEERS Miller Light unopened( really). I'm not kidding or making this stuff up. It's really scary, I think I need to just run trails. Be careful what you ask for!
