This was a great event! Thanks to all the organizers. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The goody bags were terrific as is the technical t-shirt. I'm glad to be a member of GUTS!
Cheers, Lucinda

Jaydene rocks the casbah! Thanks for a really fun event, and to all the volunteers especially those humming "eye of the tiger!"

I second that ...er, third that. Although I had an absolutely awful day struggling with bronchitis from the get-go, it's hard to have a truly bad day on the trails. Once I knew I wasn't going to be able to breath properly, I just settled into jogging, walking, petting dogs and watching peeps on the lake ...anything to try to redirect the frustration. The race seemed perfectly organized, the swag was killa' (but my son ate the Moonpie ...sketcher), shirt rocked and the post race food options were unreal. How 'bout that green tea soda? ...cool stuff. Great GUTS event. ::: a really, really bad race report is here: run50miles.org/2008/02/11/red-top-rumble-race-report/

Three cheers for the RD and all of her volunteers. Excellent race - every kept saying what a beautiful course it was! Can't wait until 2009, when perhaps I won't eat fish enchilladas the night before...

Interesting elevation calcuations by the two motion-based postings. I downloaded the csv file with the elevation points from the race map on mapmyrun and calculated accumulated evelation of 1,000 ft., which seems about right. Red Top is not a particularly hilly course.
Why are the motion-based calculations so different, even compared to each other?

Great race. Well run in all aspects. Thank you to the volunteers! Here's my GPS info. for an interesting comparison with redrooster - I have a Forerunner 205 - Redrooster had excellent reception, mine said poor. Redrooster, what kind of GPS do you have? Elevation data is totally different as well. Distance is pretty close to the same, but I believe that the elevation gain is closer with your unit. trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4955806Mt. Cheaha next, followed by knee surgery on the 27th.

I looked at your setting for gps signal quality, I use the mb gravity function because the forrunners are a little less acurate elevation wise than the EDGE. MB gravity use GPS and real geological surveys to correct elevation. Ohh I have a forerunner 305. You can change this by going into dashboard and activating MB gravity. Ihave found it to be very acurate.

Fantastic event. I enjoyed it enough to join GUTS. Any organisation that can pull off an event as well as this one went, is one to become involved with. I happily look forward to future GUTS events!
