Very nice. Registered this evening. I'll have my 2008 GUTS membership at this Tuesday's run. I may not make the run but will likely be there for pizza.

Apparently I have been fairly convincing about the fun of running on trails. Four other people at my company signed up for this race this morning.
Can I get a cut of the entry fees? ;D

Probably not...
But you ARE now on the hook for helping to BUILD the new trail section.
"What are you standing around for? That trail isn't going to build itself! Get moving! Move it! Move it!"

hehe, I was joking. I'm very happy with my $5 GUTS discount and generally think the entry price is more than fair. Even though, I'm up to having recruited 5 people (and one of them is bringing three friends). ;D How can I help build the new section?

ah, don't listen to ol' cheese, he's a contrarian. ;D
i will personally give you extra moon pies for all the friends you are bringing.
we are doing a run and trail work this weekend. We are meeting on Sunday, Dec 30, at 8am at Iron Hill parking lot. We will run the course and then work on clearing the new section. I hope we can get it all done Sunday! If not, we will have another day later in January to complete the work.

If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry you will get over it.

IS this an attempt at asking for help? ;D If not, this is my attempt to ask you if help is needed. I am always looking to run in different places. ;D ;D

Moonpies? Awesome!
I would be there this weekend, but we're leaving to go to Florida for a NYE wedding. Hopefully, I can make the run in January.

Great pictures!
How hilly is this course? Is there a trail it compares to in difficulty level?

The Iron Hill trail (I think it is the first four miles) is almost flat.
Although the course description says "Easy to moderate", I find the area pictured from the visitor center to the lodge and around the homestead loop to be very hilly. I lived on Long Island for 41 years however, so anything with more hills than Central Ohio is hilly to me.
I think it is harder than most parts of KM, short of storming straight up the side of the mountain. There are at least two, maybe three sections like the climb at the end of the Kolb Farm loop up to the parking lot at cheatham hill. I know that if I run RT for a few months straight it makes KM seem easier.
I'm also old and slow and will prolly come in last and everyone will laugh at me and say that I am a wimp and that it was just a few little bumps.

I agree that there are some sizable hills at Red Top but "Easy to moderate" is relative. Compared to other trail races that I have only read about it is at least runnable and most people won't need oxygen tanks to complete it.
You can rest assured that no one will be laughing at you.
