All the details are still being worked out, but it looks like our newest event will take place on Sunday, February 10th, 2008
Our RD for this new event is board member Jaydene Reardon. The course is almost finalized, and will be less than 12 miles, but the exact distance is still being measured (so i don't want to give a specific number yet)
We are looking for volunteers, and there is lots to do! We will have some jobs that would still allow you to run the race. Please contact Jamie at jslafkosky@gmail.com if you are interested in vlounteering.

I have known of Eva Cassidy for a long time - after seeing a nightline special several years ago. That special can been seen if you do a YouTube search for her. Here's a link to Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Turn up the volume, sit back and close your eyes: youtube.com/watch?v=eUwTdqPkluY

The final distance is going to be 11.5 miles. It should be a really fun race, with some technical spots and some hilly spots. If it rains some between now and then, there will also be nice views of the lake. The course will use all the trails at Red Top, plus some new stuff.
The course will start on the Iron Hill bike trail, then run a "new trail" from Iron Hill to the campground, then take the campground trail to the Visitor's Center, then the Homestead loop. Coming back we will utilize part of the SweetGum trail and the nature trail near the VC, then back to the campground trail, then back on the "new trail" to finish where it started at the Iron Hill parking area.
See the other thread for details on registering.

...then run a "new trail" from Iron Hill to the campground. New trail? Do tell... Will the loop section of the Homestead trail be clockwise or counter-clockwise? -Tim-

we are creating a new trail (yes, the ranger helped us and has OK'd the new trail) from the Iron Hill Mtn bike trail to the campground trail. It is about 1/2 mile long. If you have never run it - the campground trail is about 3/4 miles long and goes from the campground to the visitor's center
the homestead will be run clockwise. But we will also incorporate the sweetgum loop on the way back to the visitor's center.
