This time is near, dear Trotters and volunteers! Come this Saturday morning, you'll be enjoying the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve over and over and over again. A few last minute notes.
Course Condition
Despite heavy rains over the last month, the course is in great shape. It drains much better than I thought. A new section of boardwalk has been added over one potentially muddy section. The rest of the course is simply soft. Shouldn't have an dust issues this year. But the humidity is up!
Bees
We had a minor bee encounter yesterday while on the course. I'll probably run the rest of them off this week with the weed eater...or they'll run me off! Be warned: if you're allergic to bees, you should ALWAYS carry an epi pen, especially on trails in the summer! We will not have a medical team on site. Of course an ambulance is only a 911 call away. But an allergic reaction happens quickly.
Weather
Current forecast calls for a high of 92 on Saturday and sunny. Perfect weather for August!
Cups
Please carry a water bottle. Cups are ridiculously expensive and a horrible waste. I'd much rather spend your money on actual aid. And you'll stay better hydrated if you're constantly sipping on a bottle as opposed to drinking only at the aid station.
Facilities
We'll have a clean porta potty. But there is no running water or shower facilities.
Supplies
Despite placing my order over a month ago, my shipment of Succeed! Ultra and Electrolyte Caps has not arrived yet. I'll supplement with Gatorade only as a last resort. Hopefully I can at least come up with some Accelerade. But I'm hoping the Ultra arrives. We'll have the standard ultra aid station supplies, including potatoes & salt, chips, cookies, fruit, hard candies, Clif Shots (courtesy of Big Peach Running Co), and more. We're even trying to get Sweetwater Brewery on board to donate some beers
Update: The Succeed Electrolyte caps have arrived. Now we're only waiting on the Ultra.
That's all I can think of for now. Hope everyone has a great week and gets a lot of rest. See all of you Saturday!
