I am interested in peoples favorite shoes, for high mileage and ultra running.
Having a neutral stride and foot strike and being of a light weight frame I have always liked the light weight Nike shoes Pegasus and Skylon. I am considering trying the Nike Zoom Elite soon. But have never had a trail shoe as most of my running is on the road.
Has anyone tried the Nike Air Pegasus Trail? If so how is the weight? I definately prefer light weight shoes with moderate cushioning.
Years ago (late 80's early 90's) I did alot of high mileage weeks in what was then called Asics Gel Lytes, that I liked just as much as the Nike Pegasus and it wore better. Does Asics still have a comparable version today?
Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I started running in the Pegasus and Skylons back then, and swithched to the Gel Ultra Lytes when they changed the Skylons. Now I run in the NB830 series or the Saucony Azura series. They are both a light weight cushioned shoe with no motion control. I haven't tried the Pegasus Trail, but a couple of members run in them and they like them.

It looks like Montrail retired the Masai - not on their website anymore. Once stocks run out, anyone know anything about the two new models they put out? One is billed as a racing flat, but its also clearly a trail design - Curious if anyone has run it, and if so, is it supportive enough for 50K or 50M on single track? I liked the Masai on rocky or rooty single track more than I like my Saucony Chebaccos, but the Chebacs will prevail if the new Montrails arent as good as the Masai.

I think Saucony is discontinuing the Chebacs! Better stock up.
I bought a pair of Keen trail shoes .... only ran in them once so far..... will let you know later how I like them.

Has anyone had any experience with Inov-8's? I purchased a pair and love the way they grap the trail beneath my feet. However, I have found they turn my heels into hamburger. At first I thought too small, but I feel as though I have plenty of toe box area and about a thumbs width from tip of toe to front of shoe. Any advice?

I wear Adidas Supernova Classics and Inov-8 Flyrocs.
The Supernovas handle roads and most trails well enough for my purposes, they just aren't that great in mud and they stay wet a lot longer.
The Inov-8s are fantastic for about twenty miles/four hours and then the lack of padding leads to foot pain. They grip very well, give good trail 'feel', drain/dry very quickly, and clean up easily. I can deal with pain in the feet in 50ks but at Pine Mountain I changed shoes and it was the big reason to stop at the Barkley.
I tried the Supernova Trail a few years ago and it was way too clunky for me.

Anyone tried the new Saucony Labrynth? Trusty Chebac's retired, and this seems to be the replacement. Also, the Nike Junga - any reports? My Nike road shoes with a very similar outsole design are really nice, but I worry the trail shoe may not hold up on anything over 20 miles or so. Feedback appreciated. Matt.
