This is probably the dumbest question ever posted but I just want to verify-- Huntsville Al is one hour behind atlanta time, right? Due to work we have to drive in saturday morning and I just want to double check

That is correct. Huntsville is on God's Time (as my mother used to call Central Time).
On the Elvis Radio channel we refer to it as "Elvis Time".

I haven't figured out how to use the form, so I thought I would post the dumbest question on Mountain Mist as a reply. Do they handle "Drop Bags" at the race or is their support simply that as provided by the aid stations.
Second question, How does the difficulty of MM compare to the Fat Ass or Pumkin Butt?
Thanks

i do not think Mtn Mist has any drop bags for their aid stations. my opinion - overall, the footing at Mtn Mist is worse than Pumpkin Butt and a lot worse than Fat Ass. don't get me wrong there are plenty of nice runnable sections, but i think there are more "totally crappy goat miles" at Mtn Mist. BUT, there is a good bit more climb in Pumpkin Butt (5000+/-) than Mtn Mist (3256), so in the end i would think that Pumpkin Butt is slightly slower

Looks like GUTS has made the big time when our race courses are the standard used to gauge other courses. ;D

I've mentioned these directions to a few people and figured I'd post here. The Prez might have some better suggestions or maybe can confirm these, but I've used these before and they cut the drive down a lot. The record is somewhere around 2 hours, 45 minutes...but that involves a bit of, er well, fast driving. Generally closer to 3:15 average. In anycase, it's a very nice scenic route, too. There's a few odd turns where highways are split slightly, so I'd suggest taking a quick look at Google Maps, but overall they're a LOT better than going all the way to Chattanooga.
Take Interstate 75 N to Adairsville. In Adairsville, take exit 128 for Hwy 140 W to Armuchee. In Armuchee, this becomes Hwy 27 N, stay on to Summerville. In Summerville, take Hwy 48 W to Hwy 117 (in Alabama). When Hwy 117 splits, take Hwy 40 W to the left. At the bottom of the mountain on Hwy 40 in Scottsboro, turn right onto Hwy 35 N. Turn left onto Hwy 72 W to Huntsville. Hwy 72 turns into I - 565. Then follow directions on the MM website.

The Prez is correct! This is the correct term! Shoeandy, I used to go the backroads but now I go through Chattanooga. The back way that I used came out in Guntersville and then came into Huntsville on the road that crosses Monte Sano right where you need to be to get to the park. It has been a long time since I went that way so it might have changed and become more congested, but it is a very scenic route.

I registered for Mtn Mist and will not be travelling to AL for the race (Knee recovering from a fall during a training run on the Arkaquah Trail at Brasstown Bald). If anyone out there needs a spot and can use mine, please reply to the forum or you can e-mail me directly at karajon@bellsouth.net.

Best Directions: [from shoeandy: Take Interstate 75 N to Adairsville. At the bottom of the mountain on Hwy 40 in Scottsboro, turn right onto Hwy 35 N. shoeandy definitely has given the fastest route to Huntspatch
believe me, my brothers and i have doing timing studies of the various routes and this is the fastest. Even my mama can make from Huntspatch to Marietta is just over 3 hours! ;D

Hmmmm ... I'll have to try that one. I've never been that way before. I've gotten lazy in my old days and just go to chattanooga and then over to 72 and in that way. I don't know how long that takes, mainly because now that I'm old, I take an "I'll get there when I get there" attitude. Plus, my bladder and my addiction to McDonald's coffee, dictate that I stop alot to go potty. BTW - I working hard on causing a knockdown, "throw the toaster at your husband", fight with my wife so that she won't want me to go to Mobile with her this weekend. So far she hasn't taken the bait, but I still have a few secret weapons to unleash.

I updated the directions with some "real" feedback on where to turn and what towns to aim towards. ;D I hope you all make it there and don't get lost!
Take Interstate 75 N to exit 306-Adairsville/SR 140/Folsom Road. Turn left off exit, onto 140, and continue until it dead-ends. Turn right onto Hwy 27 N (Martha Berry Hwy that comes out of Rome). Stay on Hwy27 to Summerville. In Summerville, go left onto Hwy 48 W (just after railroad tracks) towards Menlo and Mentone, AL. Note: 48W changes #s to Hwy 117 in Alabama. After crossing Hwy 59, Hwy 117 splits off to the right (at top of mtn) Stay straight/slight left on Hwy 40W toward Henagar. Hwy 40 ends at the bottom of a mountain, at the Tenn. River. Turn right onto Hwy 35 N towards Scottsboro (crossing the river). Turn left onto Hwy 72 W to Huntsville. Hwy 72 turns into I - 565. Then follow directions on the MM website.

Short post - the race was awesome! Challenging as hell, but a lot of fun and I met some very nice GUTS members along the run and really enjoyed talkking to them.
Hope everyone makes it home safely. Cheers!
