A friend and I are looking to do a 3-day trail run trip after Christmas. The idea is to be able to stay somewhere central in north Georgia (or just across the border in Tennessee or North Carolina) and run a different route of great trails each day. We're both experienced backpackers and used to backcountry camping in the winter (and knowing when to cancel a trip) so we're cool packing into a good spot at the intersection of several good trails, or car camping and driving to reasonably spaced trail heads. I figured this group would know the trails pretty well and could recommend some really good spots for us.
If we don't find any really good questions, we're likely staying at a cabin in between Dahlonega and Brasstown Bald and working with that area.

You can't go wrong with the Smokies. I was up there at Thanksgiving. Easy to backpack into many of the backcountry campsites and you will have them all to yourselves!
There are several loops you can do out of the Deep Creek area and it's only about three hours from Atlanta.
Let me know if you want more info.
