Where in this area are night trail runs permitted? I'm not considering running on roads after dark, it's too dangerous. I have to train for Leadville and have the lights, but was told by a national park officer that I can't run at Kennesaw after dark, so where can a person go? How often are the trails patrolled after dark? What would the consequences of being caught after dark there be? Thoughts? Ideas?

It might be a ways for you, I run at Dawson forest after dark with a headlight sometimes. Get to see all kinds of wildlife.

Dawson forest is a good spot because there is a parking lot where you can keep your car as an "aid station", and multiple ways you can loop out for runs. Also, any of the long trails which permit hiking and overnight backpacking should be legit and probably offer better Leadville training (Appalachian Trail, Pinhoti in AL and GA, Benton Mackaye, Duncan Ridge). I say "should" be legit because I have never called to ask if it is okay to run, but it would make sense if you are allowed to backpack there.
You do NOT want to get caught running at Kennesaw or on the Chattahoochee trails after dark, because it is a federal offense.

I would say any park that allows camping and has trails should be ok to run on at night. Kennesaw trails are behind my house so it's a risk u sometimes have to take
