I have just decided to do a 50k this winter at Mt. Cheaha in Alabama, and the longest run I've done before this is the Minneapolis Marathon Last Winter. I live in Atlanta, and need to train on the weekends in the mountains, but don't feel safe going alone all the time (very few of my friends are crazy enough to do these distances with me). Someone recommended GUTS, but I don't know how many training runs you guys do. I'm not sure if I should join yet, because I don't know what I'm paying for, and don't know if I will use the benefits. Your calendar showed some events spread out through out the region, but I didn't see a lot of group runs like on Saturday mornings. Can someone tell me if there are training trail runs coming up in the next few months on a regular basis? If so, I'm in!

You can go up to Amicalola Falls and run to Springer Mtn and back (~16-17miles). Or Woody Gap to Neels Gap and back (~22miles). Always other runners/hikers on these trails, very safe. GUTS membership is only $15, so you could do a the Fat Ass 50k. Sweetwater Creek State Park, Lithia Springs, GA. - I think there is a training run this Sunday 30-Oct at Amicalola Falls. meets at the top of the falls at 7:30am

I typically do saturday morning trail runs of around 7-15 miles somewhere around suwanee, sugar hill, buford, cumming. Often at or around the Chattahooche river and the lake lanier dam area. Usually there are 2 or more of us running. Tomorrow will probably be 7 miles, maybe 10, at and around Settles Bridge Park and the Chattahoochee. Next week probably do 13m somewhere. Everyone is welcome. Contact me at rpink729@yahoo.com if interested.

Oh, and costumes are optional, but encouraged, tomorrow. (Won't that be funny if it's just me running through the woods and park in some costume!)

I'll be eating haloween candy every mile! rsvp to the email above if you're comming and/or if you need more directions.

Membership is only $15 for the year. It gets you a $5 discount at any of our races. We typically have 1 or more training runs on the weekends thru-out the year. Pumpkin butt for members is tomorrow. A group is going to Amicalola sunday (7:30 top of the falls parking lot).
If you join Nov 1st or later, the membership is good thru next year.
Btw, we also meet on tuesday and thursdays for trail runs too.
