My wife's knee has been hurting for 14 months, after 9 months of running on it she finally decided to take a week or two off. That was 6 months ago and she has not run sense. She was later diagnosed with Chondromalacia patella and the physical therapist thinks it is Patellar Tendinitis. After 4 weeks of PT it seems to be worsening. We have been to one orthopedist and one podiatrist.
We need suggestions. Good doctor recombination (that works with runners), good solutions, recovery stories to keep her motivated, anything you think can help.
Thanks Jason

Hey Jdog, I've had bouts of patella tendonitis in both knees off and on since 2003. It started when I began training very intensely for an upcoming marathon that year, without much base buildup first. I finished the marathon but the pain started worsening until I couldn't run on it at all. Went to PT for a few months, had cortisone injections, etc. and it "seemed" to be healing until I started running again when it started flaring up all over again. What finally seemed to help was to start wearing the knee bands - first the one with the little nob to put pressure directly on the tendon and then progressed to just an elastic band for more moderate pressure...that, and switching over from road to trails as much as possible has really relieved it for me. I still run with the elastic band religiously (on whatever knee is starting to bother me) and haven't had an issue.
Best of luck, Charles

Good stuff. Thanks for the offer on the training. We will keep that in mind if the PT doesn't bare fruit and may take you up on your consult offer. We will give the PT a while though as insurance will be picking up 80% starting next week.
She is currently using the knee bands for walking, but unable to run. They seemed to help at first, but less effective after a while. Thanks for the advice.
